Make Them Like It - Brooklyn Funk Essentials

Advantages: pure funk.
Disadvantages: erm... ... I couldn't get the inlay out of the case. I think that's more my problem though.

A track about wanting someone you can't get because there's so many other people flocking round them. Yet another big bassline, and even some synthesised clapping sounds in the middle of the track (They're not as bad as I make them sound). Guitar squealing in the back in an 80s style, rocking the place up and guest vocals from the wonderful Beverley Knight add to the experience. Funk-o-meter: **** 6. Stop Don't Panic - Think Deeper Underground put into the context of a funk album, and you pretty much have this track, except it's much easier to dance to. Advantages: Gets your toe tapping
Disadvantages: Jazz AND Abba? Will you have any street cred left?

But having seen the theme tune to The Streets of San Francisco and Gloria Gaynor's I Will Survive given the jazz funk treatment, it was still a surprise to find an entire album devoted to new versions of Abba classics. I must admit, it was with trepidation that I first plugged my headphones in, expecting corny renditions of already corny tunes. What I got instead was a fantastic surprise as the funky beats all but obscured any reference to previous incarnations. That's not to say that all Abba influence is lost entirely - most notably the chorus lines of Super Trouper and Gimme, Gimme, Gimme make you realise just what you are listening to. I've been a fan of the Nils Landgren Funk Unit for some time, from albums full of upbeat, swing-like numbers, to those with a laid-back, ballad feel, they are all extensively musical... Read review

Advantages: Great Songs You Remember From Films
Disadvantages: Dancing The 'Hot Stuff' From 'The Full Monty'!!

..., awakens memories of our favourite films and makes us appreciate the music in them we may have missed first time round. Best Of The Rest- Highly Recommended Tracks: George Baker Selection- Little Green Bag Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate The Positive- Bobby Mercer Born To Be Wild- Steppenwolf Weaker Links- Disc 2: Cheryl Lynn- Got To Be Real- A bit TOO much of a good thing on the disco genre here and as it's the last track of the genre, it's easily forgettable when preceded by Barry White & Donna Summer. Overall A superb compilation album with old favourite, classics, rock n roll, a bit of everything! This is a CD I like to have in my car but I find myself driving to the music than to the rules of the road.
