Album Notes: Legendary Malian performer Toumani Diabate's 'The Mande Variations' is his second album in twenty years, his first having been released in 1987. Since then, collaborations with Western artists such as Bjork and Damon Albarn have established Diabate as a versatile interpreter of foreign styles and traditions, seamlessly blending his own with them. This release is symptomatic of these cultural exchanges, at once faithful to its roots and exploratory of a more accessible Western style. At the forefront throughout is the virtuosic kora playing of Diabate himself.
Album Reviews: Uncut (p.85) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "[S]tately, intricate, meditative, rooted in a culture, but never afraid to transcend it."
Advantages: Great piano playing of a great Bach composition. Disadvantages: None
...One of Gould's final recordings, this is probably the definitive piano version of Bach's keyboard masterpiece. Gould runs the theme & thirty variations as a unified whole. His playing is characterised by clear fast passages, crisp ornaments and controlled, intense playing of the slow variations (nos.15 & 26). Even his humming along to the music does not detract from a joyous performance. The final section from variation 27 to the slow return to the theme is pianism at its most uplifting.
The piano sound is clear without being dry & compares favourably with most up to date piano recordings. This is a disc to convert anyone to Bach & indeed to Gould's pianistic genius....

Bee Gees No 1's Review ofNumber Ones, The - Bee Gees (The)by
sewbizzie
Advantages: Great mix of songs Disadvantages: Not for everyone
...I originally bought this album for my Dad for his birthday as he loves the Bee Gees and I had to grow up listening to their songs. What a massive suprise I got when my husband saw it and said he would like to get it for himself!
Having bought him a copy and had to listen to it in the car I have become quite a little fan of this album.
The Bee Gees has given us 20 great songs from all times of the career. 19 of the 20 songs made it to the number one spot in the charts.
The CD starts with Massachusette, followed by, World, Words, I've gotta get a message to you, I started a joke, Don't forget to remember, How can you mand a broken heart, Jive Talkin', You should be dancing, How deep is your love, Stayin' alive, Night fever, Too much heaven, Tragedy, More than a woman, Love you inside out, You win again, Man in the middle, Islands...
