I was never really a Mariah Carey fan to begin with, I used to wonder what all the fuss was about and it wasn't until I heard Vision of Love on the radio a while ago that I decided to go and buy her debut cd years after it had been released. The album is an 11 track, a mix of ballards and dance, and that amazing voice that everone must know by now. Wether you like her or not you can't deny how talented she is.
The album begins with Vision of love which was also the debut single, It's my favourite song of hers, a ballard which shows off her incredible voice at it's best.
There's got to be away is a more upbeat song, it's not the kind of thing you'd usually hear Mariah singing about and the vocals may go a little over the top in places but it's still a good enough song.
I don't wanna cry is another ballard, it's one of my favourites on the album and was a number one in the US. Her voice sounds great on this song
Someday was another number one in the US and it's Mariah in a more upbeat mode. It's a good dance song, good lyrics but not my favourite on the album.
Vanishing is another ballard with just Mariah's voice and a paino - it sounds fantastic and is another one of my favourites. This is Mariah's voice at it's absolute best.
All in your mind is the sixth track on the album and she really demonstrates those high notes that she's famous for.
Alone in Love is another ballard, I love the way her voice sounds on this song and this is probably my third favourite song on the album.
You need me is a more uptempo track, I don't think it's the best one on the album but it does have a great guitar solo.
Sent from up above is probably the least favourite on the album , it's a nice enough song but just not for me.
Prisoner is one of the best songs in my opinion, I love the lyrics and the 'attitude' of the song.
Love takes time very nearly didn't make it to the debut album but here it is. It's another Mariah ballard (not that i'm complaining) and it's pretty good and it was another US number one.

Advantages: Great songs, incredible vocals, sensitive lyrics Disadvantages: Maybe a little bit cheesy by today's standards, a lot of vocal acrobatics which may be annoying for some
