Advantages: Lots of tracks ranging through the years. Disadvantages: not all the greats
...I bought this album for myself when Elvis was coming back into fashion with the general masses when the single "A little less conversation" was released. You would think the title of the album being 30 No. 1's all the classics would be on there but i was sadly mistaken. Its funny to not find certain songs on there that you would definetly think were hits.
The cd is accompanied by a inner booklet that gives track listings and a small explanation about when each song was released and what era,who wrote them etc. At the back you have a section by which you can order Elvis merchandise. You can even apply for an Elvis credit card!!!
All the songs on the album are good but to get a better idea of how good Elvis really was you need to delve further than just a best of album. Maybe this album would suit someone who just wanted a brief dusting...

Advantages: Original, dynamic, and still great fun Disadvantages: It's not their best album, and you might get bored of the UFO theme
...The Pixies are a great band, and have the rare quality of lacking any sort of pretension at all. "Trompe Le Monde" was the band's third full-length album, and although perhaps not as good as either of their era-defining predecessors, it's constantly entertaining and has a personality all of it's own. Musically, this is perhaps the most diverse set of songs the Pixies recordes, and the album also features wacky lyrical themes including alien-abduction (one of Frank Black's personal obsessions).
This album also features some of the Pixies...

Advantages: Moving from start to finish Disadvantages: Few and far between
...I recently wrote a review on Disintegration by the Cure, not just because i'm an old git. I am a music lover, and love all music, even bad music gets a place(low down where it can hardly be seen, but still). It's just that the early 90's were special, kids of today love their speed garage etc. but speed garage is really just hardcore house made accessible. The beats and the melodies have been done and ten years ago as well. I am waffling, but what i'm trying to say is i know all music is plagiarism in one way or another but so is painting. And a stick man drawing, ain't a Van Gogh. In the early 90's music, wth the arrival of mass ecstasy consumption lead to many more innovations than the beginning of this decade.
Football hooliganism dissapeared almost forever (it seemed), everyone was loved up on the terraces. Most importantly, music...
