This is metallicas 3rd album and is probably their greatest work to date. Through the 8 tracks and 55 minuets of playtime there is a veraity of fast and slow songs. the album is a master peice and i belive it is the best alround metallica album. it was first released in feburary 1986 and only reached 29th in the charts but this is not an indication of how good the album is.most of the songs are influenced by war mainly WW1. the album contains the tracks 1) battery 5:10 this song has an interesting acustic start and continues to be quite gothic metal for the first minuet before turning to the classic heavy metal tune so frequelntly used by metallica. the instrumental is similar but not repetative. the vocals are also very good for the first time on a metallica album. 2) master of puppets 8:38 sound instrumental good lyrics and vocal work make this song one of the best ever. its a good fast n' heavy that made metallica great 3) the thing that should not be 6:32 very heavy and slow song with good instrumental and vocals to match another of metallicas best songs 4) sanitarium (welcome home) this is again a slightly gothic track with some of the best metallica lyrics ever written and some of hetfeilds greatest vocal work. this song is a masterpeice starting slow and gaining momentum before a great drum solo finalle 5) disposable heroes 8:14 a good solid metallica classic song very heavy with a good instrumental rythem a good song very thoughtful lyrics i belive their about WW1 6) leper messiah 5:38 another heavy metallica classic good instrumental and vocals what more can i say its a metallica song 7) orion 8:12 this is a purely instrumental track and although its long for an instrumental it does not get tiresome heavy in parts with thrash sections and good solos this song is good. 8) damage, inc 5:08 a slow peaceful beging leads to a strong heavy centre just like so many songs on this album i must stress that it doesnt get boring. this is a very strong instrumental track with good vocals nothing memorable in the song but a strong peice
overall the album has no dissapointing features like so many other metallica albums (especially the post 1991 ones) its the first time the vocal and instrumental were a the same level
obey your master and buy this album

Not really a Metallica fan but I do like the disposable hero’s for the WW1 connection

Your review needs a more. How about a short MetallicA history, some interesting album facts/incidents. This is a great album, I prefer Ride the Lightning. Oh, try typing your review in word, doing a spellcheck and then posting? :-) Dean
