The Matrix, a brilliant film (that will probably be in another op). And what does a brilliant film need, but a brilliant soundtrack, and this is exactly what this CD delivers...a great soundtrack mixing rock and techno music. There are 13 tracks on this album, all from different artists, and all were used at various points in the Matrix movie.

//TRACK LISTING\\

1. Marilyn Manson - Rock is Dead
2. Propellerheads - Spybreak (short one)
3. Ministry - Bad Blood
4. Rob D - Clubbed to Death (Kuraymino Mix)
5. Meat Beat Manifesto - Prime Audio Soup
6. Lunatic Calm - Leave You Far Behind
7. Prodigy - Mindfields
8. Rob Zombie - Dragula (Hot Rod Herman Remix)
9. Deftones - My Own Summer (Shove It)
10. Hive - Ultrasonic Sound
11. Monster Magnet- Look To Your Orb For The Warning
12. Rammstein - Du Hast
13 Rage Against the Machine - Wake Up

//ALBUM ANALYSIS\\

As you can see there, a nice mixture of tracks. For every rock artist like Manson, Ministry, Rage Against the Machine or the Deftones, you get a techno artist like Prodigy, Rob D, Propellerheads or Meat Beat Manifesto, and from experience, even if you don't like techno or rock, you will find yourself warming to the tracks after a while. I personally didn't like techno very much when I bought this disc, now however, I'm a pretty big fan of it.

Most of this soundtrack, from first glance, has a lot of big names on it from their respective genres, such as RATM, Marilyn Manson, Prodigy and Rob Zombie. However artists like Hive and Rammstein were relatively unknown to me when I bought this album, and has in turn opened me up to look at their other music.

All of the music on the disc has an upbeat tempo to it, which makes it the perfect music to listen to while driving, or when trying to wake yourself up in the morning.

//GREAT SONGS\\

Marilyn Manson - Rock is Dead
-----------------------------
Really heavy, really loud, but damn, is it great for waking you up. I wasn't much of a Manson fan before I listened to this song, but it certainly made me one by the time I heard this song. Brief instances of cursing in it, but then again, this is Manson. This wasn't used in the actual film at all to my knowledge, but it was in the credits (very similar to how Metallica's "I Disappear" in Mission Impossible 2 was used)

Propellerheads - Spybreak (short one)
-------------------------------------
A great techno instrumental, that again, is very upbeat and energises you, which was probably why it was used for the lobby fight scene in the movie.

Rob Zombie - Dragula (Hot Rod Herman Remix)
-------------------------------------------
Again, not an artist I was a big fan of when I bought this soundtrack, but Dragula really warmed me up to his music. Shortly after I bought the disc, I had a chance to hear the original version of Dragula, but in my opinion this is far better. I THINK, but I'm not sure, that this was used near the start of the film when Neo met Trinity. I shall have to watch the film again to check.

Rage Against the Machine - Wake Up
----------------------------------
Another good song, easily recognisable from the movie as being the one they play at the end. Typical RATM fare, with their often controversial lyrics, and some screaming near the end, but not enough to reduce the song to a garbage standard.

//NOT SO GREAT SONGS\\

Rammstein - Du Hast
-------------------
It's not that I don't like the song, the music is really cool, but I simply just do not have a clue what they are saying, apart from the frequent "Nein!" shouts. Unless you can speak German, I don't think this would be anymore than a OK song at best.

Ministry - Bad Blood
--------------------
Simply too much screaming in it for me. I prefer rock songs that have at least some semblance of singing in them, and unless you happen to LIKE the screaming, then you'd not like this song much at all.

//THE INLAY\\

The inlay on this disc is nothing special, with just a few Matrix pictures and the track listing on the inside. The cover picture is slightly different on mine to the standard UK release as I purchased this CD at a music store while on holiday in Gran Canaria.

//IN CLOSING\\

In closing, I class this not only as a really good soundtrack CD, but also as a great compilation album. None of the songs are really terrible, and even the weak links aren't that weak, depending on your tastes. I recommend this as a great purchase for any Matrix, soundtrack, rock or techno fans.
