First of all, let me tell you this : This CD has NOTHING to do with MATRIX OST, because ANIMATRIX is whole different project. Although it grounds tastily in MATRIX, this one spins around Matrix's major plot. But we got to get down to its music. :) When I saw Animatrix for the first time I was stunned by its music. As a great fan of Japanese animation and instrumental tunes I just couldn't break away from its atmospheric and carefully chosen tracks. As in The Second Renaissance sequence, where it is laid down how all Matrix started, Overseer's tune Supermoves just rock. Human bodies ripped by androids with massively fast paced breakbeat puts you there :] Opening sequence Final Flight of the Osiris, screened by Wahowski Brothers and deveopled by Square Co. with Juno Reactor's Conga Fury during the action it's just impossible not to cling to!
Like in A Detective Story with Blind Tiger by Layo & Bushwacka, after seeing which, I just find their album i got it for myself:) In my opinion The Animatrix album is a masterpiece of picture and sound and widely put by the sidelines as a secondary project.
Tracklisting:
1. Who Am I? (Animatrix Edit) - Peace Orchestra - fully psychedelic opening of this CD, egged me into the world of Animatrix. This track was used in episode
2. Free*Land - Big Wednesday - from The Second Renaissance episodes nicely put into background of pictures of newly emerging civilization.
3. Blind Tiger - Layo & Bushwacka! - this one's a tune! slow downtempo with multi voice comes along with climate of the film.
4. Under the Gun - Supreme Beings of Leisure - fast paced funky tune from A Detective Story gives you a sway of scifi tastes in the backgrounds of '30 s in this episode.
5. Martenot Waves - Meat Beat Manifesto - now, that is a classic. Meat Beat Manifesto with simple, computerized tune.
6. Ren 2 - Photek - British drum&bass dj with psychedelic sounds and steady loops on this track.
7. Hands Around My Throat - Death in Vegas - definitely worth listening to, electro techno with four by four steady stomp, robotic vocalization gets Animatrix's ambience right to you.
8. Beauty Never Fades (Animatrix Edit) - Junkie XL, Saffron - clearly one of the spotlights on this CD. Electronic sounds at its best, completely resonates with the stories on screen. Substantial loops on this track give you an impression of detachment.
9. Supermoves (Animatrix Remix) - Overseer - one of the focal points of this album. Overseer's presence with aggressive rhythm and melody havoc during human vs. machine battle in The Second Renaissance gives you a kick! Fav!
10. Conga Fury (Animatrix Edit) - Juno Reactor - This composer doesn't need any introduction, have written most of the motion picture OST, this track's just main feature of this CD. Tribal drums through all track just builds up the story itself. With on-screen battle it's just impossible to forget.
11. Red Pill, Blue Pill - Junkie XL - with dialogues from motion picture "... how far the rabbit hole goes" part, classic techno track is a good, old school.
12. Real - Tech Itch - High pitched, aggressive dark drum&bass, reminded me of Dieselboy's compilation. Only for die-hard dark drum&bass fans.
This CD needs to be approached as a film's compilation only, it's not a main-stream music.
