May We All Meet Again - Fureys (The)

Advantages: Good compilation of The Smiths for someone wanting to get into the band, or someone with an interest in their music
Disadvantages: Some of their best material weren't released as singles, and so aren't on this album. Not as good as 'Very Best of the Smiths'

The next year saw their self-title debut album, er 'The Smiths' (for those of you sleeping), but despite the hype and excitement surrounding the album the media were disappointed and The Smiths may have been over before they started. The key to their survival lay in 'Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now'. Itself a very good song but it was its B-Side 'Suffer Little Children' which brought the media into hysterics again. What was in fact a very beautiful song written about the victims of Myra Hindley in the Moors Murders (who were the same age as and lived near to Morrissey, and provoked a strong emotional attachment to the tragedy) became an accusation that The Smiths were sympathetic to the killers in this most horrible crime. Advantages: The Cure...and so great, and jolly, and ace! Great lyrics. Great tunes! Woo!

Friday I'm In Love - 3.35 Written by:Smith/Gallup/Thompson/Williams/Bamonte This is again an absolutely AMAZING song! This is another one of my favourite songs of all time, and probably my favourite Cure song ever along with 'The Lovecats', and 'Inbetween Days'. It's so hard to choose when it is music coming from such a great band! This song is, again, another song that most people would recognise straight away, even if they weren't aware that they knew it. Even our dear own Jo (Lipsalve) sung this song to me the other day via my guestbook, to my delight, and so it is clearly a favourite song to choose when the name 'The Cure' is mentioned! Advantages: The greatest album in a long time
Disadvantages: so great the 'very good' songs get overlooked.

...It's been a while since I've been this excited about an album and band, in fact the last time was when Evanescence released Fallen in the US and I managed to hear some of their stuff due to the Daredevil soundtrack, but that was over 3 years ago, and this is now. A couple of weeks ago my weekly copy of Kerrang came through my door with the picture of a young red-headed woman giving the V-sign (the abusive one) on the cover, the article provoked my interest in a new band named Paramore, a couple of sample downloads and an album purchase later and I was excited again.
