...After a stormer of a début in the form of Parachutes which gave us the classic 'Yellow', Coldplay returned in 2002 with A Rush Of Blood To The Head - that gave us Clocks, The Scientist and possibly the greatest album of the decade so far. On rolls 2005, the year that has brought us the long awaited Oasis album, the pathetic Crazy Frog and now Coldplay's X & Y. Fans and critics alike noticed that the hype being built up around it surely meant that it was going to fall flat on it's face and die on it's backside. Well this is what Chris Martin and company have offered us... Square One - A predictable album starter, the song fades in as if you have woken up in heaven. ...where you cant find your last piece" brilliance. Title track 'X & Y' starts as a solem affair. "When something is broken then you try and fix it, try to repair it anyway you can." I think that this is a song about broken love. Fixing is used in the same vein as 'Fix You' only the subject matter is dying love rather than love conquering over all. As with all the songs so far the emotions and vocals are unreal, I mean that as in they are soooo good. The first single to be taken off the album was track seven 'Speed Of Sound'. I read a very funny quote on this song saying "it was clever and decent of Coldplay to write a song that grows on you every time you hear it… as this will be played to death this year." ...This is a fantastic early Less then Jake album, and a must-have for all Less Than Jake Fans. Its also a great introduction to the band for all those who like punk/ska music. Less than Jake's first release was Pezcore on Dill records in 1994. Following that was Losers, Kings and Things we don't understand in 1995. Losing Streak was originally released in 1996 on Capitol Records, and Hello Rockview followed two years later. They were re-released as a double album in 2000. Later full length albums by the band are Borders and Boundaries (2000), Anthem (2003) and In with the out crowd (2006). Hello Rockview is more 'mainstream' Less Than Jake, being classic punky ska, while songs on Losing Streak put heavier emphasis on a ska style horn section.
