Album Notes: Personnel include: Ram Dass (spoken vocals); John McDowell (various instruments). Ram Dass came to prominence in the 1950s and '60s as Dr. Richard Alpert (one of Dr. Timothy Leary's cohorts in the early experiments with LSD), and has continued a path of personal exploration and spiritual practice ever since. MEDITATIONS ON THE GITA combines readings by Ram Dass from the Bhagavad-Gita with musical accompaniment from a variety of guests. These include keyboardists John McDowell, bansuri player Steve Gorn, and vocalists Diana Rogers and Shyamdas, who join Dass in extended chants. The music is peaceful, soothing, and highlights the pearls of wisdom Das dispenses from the Gita, creating an overall experience conducive to meditation and self-realization.
Advantages: Good Songs on this Album Disadvantages: Nothing at all!
...This is the second album of Ram-Zet that I purchased. I have to admit upon first hearing them I kinda thought - what the hell is this weirdness? I listened to them a bit more though and have really got into them, they have a gothic/phsycadellic/metal kind of style, and the female vocalist has an awesome voice which makes the whole thing very unique.
I think thier style is very different to anything I've heard before, so they are now in my top favourites! I have all of thier albums as the more I listen to them the more I seem to like them.
This is probably my second favourite album that they have released, my first would have to be "Escape" which is not found on this website's search for some reason.
They don't play over in england as far as I know which is a real shame, I would love to see them live ^^...

...with Jim Keltner throughout – neither John nor Paul put in an appearance). The bluesy change in tempo at the very end brings it to a neat full stop.
‘The Lord Loves The One’ is another song that sounds far better than that hymn-like title might lead you to expect. Mid-tempo, and it’s probably one of the best performances he ever put in on guitar on any of his solo work. It’s followed by ‘Be Here Now’, instrumentally the most simple, with acoustic guitar and a drone played on the tanpura, a kind of meditation prayer. The title and some of the lyrics are adapted from the book ‘Be Here Now’ by Baba RamDass, and also inspired a certain Manchester group for an album title years later…
‘Try Some Buy Some’, the only Phil Spector co-production, is a return to the big wall of sound. Waltz-tempo, and inscrutable lyrics that could be about drugs...

Advantages: Seriously cool Disadvantages: absolutely none, it is what it is.
...'Saurian meditation', it is what you expect for a meditation album. It is repetitive, simple slow, chilled rythms, tones and melodies, and of course, the focus is with an authentic egyptian theme/sound.
I will also say that, most meditation albums are designed just for...well... meditating, and if you were a non-metal person or some yoga guru, you could totally clear your mind and get caught up in letting this epic sound take you away to that place where you recharge your shakra's, and I find, now that I have listened to it several times, I am able to shut off and just get totally caught up in the vibe.
But when I first started listening (being a fan of Nile), I was on edge, listening intently for little suttle things Karl does, his mastery personified! And you are able to find this with in the constant soothing rythms and every now...
