I'm a 19 year old student at the University of Nottingham, I'm in my second year studying a BA in Ancient History, it's not actually as boring as you might think, it's quite interesting. I like a wide range of music genres and sports.

Meds is Placebo's fifth studio album, (sixth if you include their greatest hits) and I am greatly impressed, the only other album that I possess is the greatest hits and that is how I have got into listening to them but, I am told by lifelong Placebo fans that this is the best album since their breakthrough self titled album, and who am I to disagree.
Meds covers many topics ranging from drug use, alcoholism, domestic violence and sexuality, this means that the lyrical scope is immense and greatly adds to the individuality this album has over others that are currently in the charts.
The strengths of the album are that for one thing nearly all of the tracks are very good and are catchy which leaves you always wanting just one more listen, Placebo have essentially gone back to basics cutting out many of their experimental aspects that appear in previous tracks and essentially making music like a band again which in my opinion makes the musical quality of this album even greater as everything is created by the band and not synthesizers etc.
My favourite songs on the album are: - 1.Meds, 2.Infra-Red, 3.Drag, 4.Space Monkey, 6.Post Blue, 8.Blind, 11.One of a Kind and 13.Song to Say Goodbye. These are extremely well written and show the creative ability of the band, they are not your usual songs but then again Placebo are not your ordinary band. They create more of a specialist genre of music; however once you listen to their songs you have no option but to like them. I did not particularly like all of these songs on my first listen and in reality just like the album they grew on me, 1.Meds 3.Drag and 8.Blind were the songs that really grabbed my attention on my first listen and so my advice to you is to listen to the album fully at least two times before you make a judgement to try to skip to what you like and what you don't otherwise you might miss out on a potential quality track, pre-judgement could be your downfall!!
Other tracks that I like but are not really standout potential singles, just good album tracks are: - 5.Follow the cops back home, 7.Because I want you, 9.Pierrot The Clown and 10.Broken Promise. These are all still good songs but they're not in the same league as the others.
Meds is in my opinion a top quality album and listening to it has even persuaded me to snap up tickets for their forthcoming UK tour in December when they were only on pre-sale as I am fast becoming a big fan of Placebo. I love this album and feel that the only letdown is 12.In the Cold Light of Morning, I really don't like this song and it prevents the album from being perfect, but, it is still rare to possess an album with only one song that you don't like.
I strongly urge you to buy this album even if you don't know much or even any Placebo material, I am confident that you will be a fan after you have heard it and then after that maybe you should pick up their greatest hits album to hear the best of their original material.
I hope that this review was useful to you and that if you do purchase the album then you enjoy it as much as I have.
