Fans will surely approve of Carey's renditions of slinky secular songs like "Christmas (Baby, Please Come Home)" and a nicely subdued "All I Want for Christmas Is You". But where she really surprises is in her unadorned delivery of traditional carols, highlighted by "Silent Night" (which she sings quietly, avoiding the temptation to wail those high notes) and "Jesus, Oh What a Wonderful Child". Merry Christmas is a must for die-hards and a pleasant surprise for the unconverted. --David Sprague

I have to say, I love this album. At Christmas time, this never fails to get me in the mood. From bouncing songs such as 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' to the mellow 'Miss You Most' this album is a great one. It includes some of the most traditional of Christmas songs, such as 'O Holy Night' and shows Mariah at her finest with her exceptional vocal range and exciting climaxes. Sometimes this can be criticised as being over the top but she uses her talent to its full potential in this lovely collection. I have to say the best track on the CD is 'Silent Night', a song we have all heard thousands of times before but this version stands alone with its individuality and even gives me goosebumps.
Advantages: Makes you feel Christmassy! Disadvantages: But not in July!
