Hello all, Im sure most of us are already aware of this one of the greatest metal bands of all times! particularly cuz of their work in the 80's receiving accolades as amongst the finest metal works. For those who by any chance are still not aware of them.. heres an introduction.
HISTORY
The Band was formed in 1981 by James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich. In 1983, they came up with their debut Kill 'Em All which was one of the first true thrash albums of the era! It started a trash scene that will last for years to come. In 1984, They came up with their album Ride the Lightening, another awesome success which topped the charts for a long time. In 1986's Master Of Puppets was one of the most popular thrash albums of all time. September 27, 1986, Metallica's tour bus skidded off an allegedly icy road and went onto its right side. Cliff Burton, their Bass Guitarist was thrown out of the window and the bus landed on top of him which was the tragic cause of his death and it was a great loss for the band. In 1988, The band's first video ever known as "One," was filmed in L.A. and they even released an album called " And Justice for All." The band has sold more than 90 million records worldwide uptill now including 57 million albums in the United States alone. They have won several awards which include these following seven Grammy awards as well!

Okay so i hope this much information should be enough for now to get you familiar with the band a little? hehe. This review is about their album BLACK so im gonna focus on that now.
THE BLACK ALBUM also known as ( Metallica Metallica )
The album which was also known as Metallica Metallica or The Black Album, was released on 14'th August 1991 and brought the band wide commercial success. This album featured a black cover that had a very pale image of a snake in one of the corners, with the band's name in the opposite corner. The cost of recording the album was over $1 million!!. This is the single best Heavy Metal album that there is. There is no thrash metal element in this album. The only song that i dont like in this album is probably "Holier than thou", which is crap in the same whiney way as Ronnie from the album Load is. The album starts with this song "Enter Sandman", which showed off the new album's slowed-down style of music if compared to Metallica's previous work.
SONGLIST ( The Black Album )
1) Enter Sandman 5.29
Enter Sandman" achieved gold status in the US, selling more than 500,000 copies whoa!. Lyrically, the song has been said to be about "nightmares" and all that comes with them. Enter Sandman" has been played in almost every Metallica live performance since its release.
2) Sad but true 5.24
This song was another heavy metal song recorded by metallica, and the second song on the album BLACK. This song has an almost "funky" bouncing rhythm that steps away from Metallica's earlier "thrash metal" sounds This song was actually at one point used as entrance theme music by the World Famous Wrestling Entertainment WWE wrestler known as The Undertaker.
3) Holier than thou 3.47
Third song on the album and personally not my kinda stuff. The song is about hypocrisy,
4) The Unforgiven 6.26
The opening guitar is simple but sweet, the solo is AMAZING, and "what I've felt, what I've known, never shined through in what I've shown" is just about the sweetest thing I've ever heard. enough said!
5) Wherever I may roam 6.42
This songs solo is one of my all time favourite solos ever! by metallica that is. The song's lyrics revolve around the theme of a drifter. The lines "Rover, Wanderer, Nomad, Vagabond, Call me what you will" refer to the life on the road, and a nomad's life as an outsider. If you play video games and have played Warcraft 3, you should notice the thief unit using the quotes from this song.
6) Don't tread on me 3.59
This song could be interpreted as a patriotic song, as the title is connected with the American Revolutionary War. The words "Don't Tread On Me" constitute motto of the Gadsden flag, and the snake image on the flag is pictured on the cover of the album. The song has never been performed live by the band. One possible reason is James Hetfield's particular dislike for this song.
7) Through the never 4.01
"Through the Never" is the 7th song from the album and the lyrics somewhat tell us about the never-ending pursuit of knowledge or life.
8) Nothing else matters 6.29
This song was written by James Hetfield for his former girlfriend. This is a commercial song very popular among metallica's fans and by now has become a staple of their live performances. It is one of the few Metallica songs in which Hetfield, rather than Hammett, plays the guitar solo. Simply amazing!
9) Of Wolf and Man 4.16
This song is about the transformation of a man to a wolf. James Hetfield was inspired to write this song by the movie Wolfen. It is about werewolves.
10) The god that failed 5.05
The song was inspired by the death of James Hetfield's mother from cancer and another reason was because he felt alienated at school because he was left out of health classes, etc. because of his parents' religion. Hetfield speaks symbolically, he is most likely talking about how it hurt his faith in God and/or about the effects on his social life from not being able to attend certain classes at school.
11) My friend of misery 6.47
This is the longest track on the album. The lyrics describe an outsider view of someone reveling in self-pity and maintaining a pessimistic view of the entire world. Jason Newsted often used the riff in his live bass solos.
12 The struggle within 3.51
The last song of the album is about a person who is suffering from a self-defeating personality. The song has never been played live by the band.
CONCLUSION
Metallica are among the best exponents of heavy metal in recent years. One of the criticisms often made of heavy metal is that it all sounds the same. Metallica has more variety in their music than most other metal bands. Every fan of heavy rock should have at least one Metallica album in their collection and the Black Album is their masterpiece.
Advantages: Immense Riffs Disadvantages: one song that has begun to get on my nerves
...comes I start listening to Metallica again and I continue listening to them until about 7 weeks after I seen him.
So I decided to listen to this album this time, Its originally called Metallica but otherwise known as The Black Album…I don’t know which one I like better.
This is one of the heavier albums…but it is indeed amazing

Enter Sandman 5/5
This is probably the bands most popular song, everyone I know has heard it at some point. It is always played on music channels (MTV2/Kerrang!/Scuzz) and it is starting to get on my nerves a little, the song is being overplayed so I am starting to get bored of it, and so are other people. ...

Advantages: Bits of every thing good about metallica Disadvantages: some tracks sound the same
...to be the end of Metallica reign as thrash metal kings and instead some see them as sell outs because this fifth album is more listener friendly and appealed to the media a lot more than the others which Metallica had originally stayed away from. I think this is just people who do not appreciate Metallica’s talent and the fact that they don’t go with the flow which is one reason that I love this band.
Metallica’s previous four albums have been considered ... ...point in my eyes for Metallica for being less raw power and more just creating songs with more personal feelings behind them. The album cover features only a coiled snake in the bottom right and the band’s logo in the top left corner (yes, very plain I know but still I think it’s good). The album also contains what some would see as Metallica’s most well known songs and being released the year before I was born and my dad being a huge fan, I’ve grew ...

...that moomin Jay-Z I mean metallica are bound to pull something like that off better! This should help a little, well its the way I'd listen to it! 1) Enter Sandman - one for going out I think, or if you feel like getting angry, and dancing round your room like a maniac- with a very kick ass solo, only Kirk Hammet and James Hetfield could make sound so unique!
2) Sad But True - you might have heard this alongside Kid Rocks, American bad ass! It was ... ...suppose to be on any metallica album, it was made up by James Hetfeild, whilst he was on the phone to his girlfriend, he went, never played it around the other band members until later on, they were all outstounded just like you'll be its such a fantastic tune, filled with passion and empathy!
I'm not gonna go through the rest of the tunes, I want you to go out there and buy the album and tell me that its not one of the most fantastic and awesome ...

...riff for Enter Sandman kicked Metallica suddenly became the biggest rock band in the world.
Tracks -:
1. Enter Sandman -: With a lead riff given equal ranking to Sabbaths Paranoid and Purples Smoke on the Water, the opening track is a dark tale of childhood nightmares and darkest fears. A monster of a chorus and Hetfield turning a nighttime prayer into venomous snarl, this is Metallica angry and saying you better sit down and listen to this record.

3. Holier Than Thou -: The boys speed it up a bit but lose none of that new found venom. Hetfield delivers another stunning performance and Ulrich pounds the drums like its going out of fashion.
4. The Unforgiven -: A ballad with a twist, strong, heavy verses with melodic, tranquill choruses. This is Fade To Black in reverse, very catchy and Metallica showing a new side to ...

...was the album that took Metallica out of the thrash-metal niche and onto the CD racks of the mainstream masses. Of course, it is natural for a band to sound more polished after playing together for so many years - and there were hints of this refinement on the And Justice For All album - but The Black Album and the band's first offering, Kill Em All, are chalk and cheese. The album opens with the excellent Enter Sandman, a hard-hitting spin on the ... ...thumping beat and Hetfield's menacing vocals, is quite reminiscent of the song One from And Justice For All. Track 2, Sad But True, is slower in tempo but no less punchy in its delivery, telling a tale of an almost schizophrenic analysis of one's own life and character. Even slower still is track 4, The Unforgiven, which, along with track 8, Nothing Else Matters, provide a pleasant relief from the usual relentless barrage of hard-hitting rock, the ...

Advantages: Enter Sandman/The God That Failed Disadvantages: Er, the rest of it
OK I will nail my colours to the mast and say that I am not this band's biggest fan. Neither do I care if I offend you when I say I believe Metallica are one of the most overrated rock groups of all time and so is this album. Now before you scream at me "but it sold millions!! And it's got Sandman/Unforgiven/Nothing Else Matters on it!!!" In answer to both, yes I know it did, and yes I know it has. But one (admittedly brilliant) track and two fair-to middling power ballads do not make for a great record in my book. If that was the case then Heart's "Bad Animals" would be up there as one of the great rock albums too. So let me try to explain.
I've never liked thrash metal, to me it's just another version of punk that allows sub-standard musicians to claim equality with their betters by simply speeding everything up. Now no ...
Advantages: Great songs Disadvantages: None really
Metallica do a Spinal Tap and release an album that?s totally black (Just don?t ask any of the band about it). And it?s a fantastic album, while not quiet as varied as Load and not the out and out thrash of Master of Puppets it?s right up there as one of Metallica?s best. There?s Enter Sandman with the classic grunt along chorus, the speedy Holier Than Thou and the metal classic The Unforgiven. There?s also the God That Failed, a song about the death of James? mother. A long cry from the naïve lyrics on Kill ?em All.
It would be impossible to review this album without mentioning Jason?s bass playing on My Friend of Misery. The intro is one of the finest bass riff?s I?ve ever heard. Not all is as great though, Don?t Tread On Me is, in my opinion, quiet a boring song that will become the first track you start skipping on a regular basis ...
Advantages: Some outstanding tracks of the genre. Disadvantages: Probably won't appeal to "pop kids"!
...and that's just me! Ooops no! This Metallica album is a must-have for people who like this genre as well as hardened Metallica fans. It's a great stonking, chonking beast of an album which drills its way into your mind with heavy riffs, growling vocals and thoughtful lyrics. Little of the sexist 'Spinal Tap' type metal-stereotype crap here.
Realeased in 1991 on the Vertigo label, it is also often referred to as their "Black Album" - for the fact the cover is completely black aswell as some of the lyrics within. Produced by James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich (both of Metallica) with Bob Rock (well known rock producer god-type person) this is a stunner of an album.

Originally released in 1991, 'Metallica' (also known as the 'Black Album') was the band's fifth studio LP and the one which gave them their first taste of commercial success. Along with producer Bob Rock, the band had defiantly walked away from the progressive thrash metal they had become known for, choosing simplified arrangements with a more mainstream sound. Includes the singles 'Enter Sandman', 'Nothing Else Matters' and 'Sad But True'.
