METEORA is the follow up album from the hugely successful Hybird Theory. A bands second album after the first being such a huge success always has a lot to live up to.
Linkin Park themselves are a band which you will either like or hate. They are described as a NU Metal band. They have a rocky, hip hop kind of feel to them. I was certainly looking forward to their follow up album and was not to be disappointed.
FOREWARD
A small introduction to Meteora of a window smashing....you can't really count this as a track and seems a bit of a waste of time but this seems to be a new trend on albums at the moment. Pointless but still on the album anyway.
DON'T STAY
On first hearing this track I was instantly impressed, it certainly keeps up with Linkin Parks style and personally think that this is one of their best tracks on the album. The chorus of this track is very catchy, Chester's voice comes through as very strong on this track.
This track certainly makes you sit up and listen. So impressed with this track I couldn't wait to hear the rest.
SOMEWHERE I BELONG
This is the first single released from Meteora. Starts off fairly quiet with Mikes rapping with Chester adding in which then bursts into a very lively chorus. Again, Chesters vocals come through strong on the chorus of this song. This again is one of the best tracks on the album, certainly Linkin Park style and feel to it.
LYING FROM YOU
The intro of this song appears to make this song be a quieter one but when it gets going you find out that it is far from a quieter song on the linkin park album! The thing I must note about this song is a very screamy shouty song especially during the chorus. Chester does this so perfectly every time.
HIT THE FLOOR
Again, another lively song with some excellent rapping from Mike and Chester does some serious shouting on this track. Not one to listen to if you have a headache!
EASIER TO RUN
This track starts off fairly slow and is more of a singing song. That may not make any sense but compared to a lot of the other tracks on any linkin park albums it has more normal singing. This track is about running away instead of facing up to things. I think that this is definitely one of the strongest tracks on the album. I think it's excellent.
FAINT
The second single from Meteora, a very upbeat start with mike rapping again and bursts into a very, very Linkin Park style Chorus. This track is very fast pace and you can't help but get engrossed into it, it's again just one of those excellent songs which you will love.
FIGURE 09
A relatively heavy song once again which I think is fairly catchy and the guitar in this song is really good.
BREAKING THE HABIT
'Breaking the habit' has much more of a relaxed feeling to it. Again, another good track, I don't think it is single material but it certainly has a nice edge to it and it unbelievably catchy. Out of all of the songs I find myself humming along to this track.
FROM THE INSIDE
Starts off with heavy drums and guitars. You feel there seems to be a lot of passion in Chesters voice on this track. I still feel that this track is much more chilled than the likes of earlier work on the CD.
NOBODY'S LISTENING
This probably has to be my least favourite song on the album. It is certainly a different direction from linkin park. This song incorporates the Japanese Flute into the song, something you can't really imagine on a Linkin Park album until you actually listen to it. This is mainly rapping by Mike with Chester coming in briefly for the chorus and that's it. It's certainly a different direction from all of the other tracks on this album.
SESSION
Like the first album this track is basically showing off the skills of all of the other band members which you could seem to forget about when writing the review as I only really mention Chester and Mike. There is no singing in this song, purely music. Nothing amazing but does give a chilled out, relaxed feeling to the album at this point and it gets to show off the talents of other band members who are sometimes kept in the shadows behind Mike and Chester.
NUMB
The last track on the album is a good one. This track isn't what I would call rocky even though it has the hard lyrics, drums and guitars. This song though is very catchy and I really do like it.
*EXTRA FEATURES* The cd cost me £12.99 and had a few extra features which included the cd being enhanced, 'the art of meteroa', website toolkit and exclusive access to web based media.
**OVERALL**
I think you will like this album if you are a linkin park fan. Even if you are not a linkin park fan I think this album could convert you. Alot of the songs are quite hard to describe until you listen to them. There are one or two tracks which are weak but generally this is the case with most albums. Overall I am very impressed with this album and look forward to album no.3!

I got this album while on holiday this year, however I purchased the Special Edition which came with a "Making of Meteora" DVD. Very good album though. :) - Karl
