Linkin Park, perhaps the most widely listened to rap-metal (yes, that is really a genré of music) band on the face of the earth have followed up with their second PROPPER album. Reanimation (their second album) doesnt classify as a propper album as it is a re-mix album which contains a very small amount of original material. However Meteora follows up superbly with 13 rip-roaring metal tracks that will bring legions of metal fans to their knees to praise the vocal and lyrical talent of Chester Bennington.
Now, in plain non-groupie English, I will explain just why this album is so damn good!
The lyrics are all very original and sang/shouted with a great amount of feeling by Mr. Bennington (lead singer). Linkin Park spent well over a year getting the album together and writing all of the lyrics. In the end they had 30 songs written and they were cut to just 13 that were considered good enough for the album. This certainly shows that the band are conscious about quality in their music.
As with most albums there is an intro track which sets the pace for the first song "Don't say" - not yet released as a single but when it is it will be big. The track that follows that is "Somewhere I belong" - the widely heard song that was played to death on the radio and MTV. "Faint" is another track on the album that has recently been released as a single, and it is another sample of the excellent tracks availible on the album. Also the song "Session" featured in the blockbuster movie "The Matrix Reloaded". The quality of the songs on the album is consistant and each and every track is excellent stuff.
Before this album I was a bit of a fan of Linkin Park, I listened to their albums from time to time and classed them as an above-average band. I bought Meteora on the date of its release (I happened to be shopping that day) and when I got the album home and put it into my stero I was instantly a fully-fledged fan of them. The album does exceed the original in every respect and every rock or metal fan owes it to themselves to listen to this! I think this is an album that will carry on selling from a great deal of time. Other timeless classics like Elvis and Madonna are about to get some new competition!
Other recently released rock albums such as "System of a Down - Steal This Album" cannot compare to Meteora. However a little know band called Finger Eleven (They arent listed on Ciao so I cannot write an OP) have a new self-titled album just released which is equally excellent. The Finger Eleven Album and Meteora are the CD's I have been listening to most of this month. The Finger Eleven Album can be bought at www.play.com for £10 but isnt availible in regular UK stores such as HMV or Virgin.
I seem to have gone off on a bit of a tangent, sorry, but back to Linkin Park. I got the album for £11 from HMV but I assume you might be able to get it a little cheaper online. There are two versions of the album, the regular version which I have, and the extended version which included a free dvd of live performances (it costs a few bob extra though). I cannot comment on the extra stuff because I dont have it however if you are an avid fan I am sure it is worth the extra few quid. (As soon as I get some more cash it is mine!)
The CD case isn't like a normal one, it is 3-fold which is original (just like the music really). The front cover is styling black and brown with a bloke spraypainting (something the band likes to do in their spare time.) The booklet included with the CD is EXCELLENT. It contains all of the lyrics for all the songs, info about the album itself and little bits of writing by all of the band members themselves as well as a large amount of art made by the band.
This is really a flawless album that will appeal to people who enjoy rock, metal and even rap music. Buy this album now and thank me later!
