My name is Chris and I'm a film student. Besides writing and producing short films I work in graphic and web design. A big passion for me is music, so I will be reviewing the depths of my obscurest CDs to get them noticed by just a few more people.

Like so many people, I loved Linkin Park back in the day... Hybrid Theory was practically my first favourite rock album, and Reanimation was brilliant too. But this strength also made it hard for Meteora to get the front row seat. Fans were so in love with the Hybrid Theory songs by this time, that new tracks seemed alien.
With the new album Meteora, a definite shift in band politics was taking place. Quite simply- more Chester, less Mike. This album is very much a rock album, albeit one with strange effects and some rapping.
So it starts- with Forword, a 13-second track of steadily increasing blunt beating noises. Fast forward through Don't Stay, a pretty normal track, to Somewhere I Belong (the album's first single). Quite a nice song, with neat reversed effects, nice chord sequence, good ending. Then we have Lying From You, reminding us a lot of Hybrid theory- lots of Mike, hip-hop effects but a definite heavy element. Very catchy song, and deserving of being a single.
Paragraph break! Just for my favourite track on the album, Hit The Floor. Very smooth, very cool. The song starts with a run through of the very cool chorus riff, then we have Mike for the verse. The chorus is pretty intense, Chester joining the very-cool guitars with his very-cool line "one minute you're on top". I would recommend this track to anyone needing the background music to a fight scene.
Then we have Easier to Run, a perfect example of Chester's soft side. Very mellow, reflective and other emotions like that. Next is the track everyone is in love with- Faint. I think the trick with this song is the nice use of the string section (although to call it 'the string section' would be false because they actually recorded a few violins and duplicated them). A very catchy, audience-grabbing single.
Figure.09- very cool song, but with quite poor lyrics. The chorus just doesn't grab me with "you've become a part of me...you'll always be my fear...I've let myself become you". BUT that said, it has a nice breakdown after the second chorus. Then there's Breaking the Habit, a late single off the album and definitely one that shows Chester's soft side again. A very nice song, but not for the metalheads. This is followed by a standard-sounding LP track, From the Inside. Intro is normal, but then the verse isn't. It's soft again, and Mike's feeling sad too because he joins in.
Then we have Nobody's Listening! First cool hip-hop track on the album. Mike Shinoda in his element. Gotta love it. Then we're rewarded again with this album's instrumental interlude: Session. Thumping beat, nice synth, cool effects. One of my favourite Linkin Park tracks, in keeping with the tradition of Cure for the Itch. (I want a whole album of just this stuff!) And that's the cool section over. We're given a slight breather before the next track.
And the next track is Numb. Similar to From the Inside, sad and reflective, but with a much better chorus. Thumbs up for this new-style track. And that's the end of it, folks. A pretty good lst track, and a pretty good album all round.
A must-have for Linkin Park fans, but be prepared for change. If you swear by Hybrid Theory and Reanimation, you might not like some of the changes they've made. But it will grow on you...
