Advantages: Reminds you of the film's atmosphere; varied selection of artists/genres Disadvantages: Some tracks seem out of place
...-hole into any of my existing notions of music genres.
The CD starts out innocently enough with the upbeat track "Here Comes the Mayo", which with a catchy bass line and beat fuses Spanish and English rap that is brought together with an anthemic chorus. The track brings out the feel of the carefree and indulgent debauchery favoured by the film's young protagonists - two teenage boys dominated by hedonism, sex, marihuana, and more sex - and the salsa-style piano one can hear through the arrangement (combined of course with the Spanish lyrics) evokes the atmosphere of the boys' lively home of Mexico City. The next track creates a similar mood. The slightly eccentric "La Sirenita" combines a familiar-sounding Mexican trumpet theme with a jovial melody about, if my memory of Spanish serves me well, a mermaid who is the object of the singer's affection...

Advantages: Operatic - Different - Dreamlike Disadvantages: None
...Martes is a very singular electronica album.
It would be fair to compare Fernando Corona to Chris Clark. These are both artists that re-invent clichéd genres of electronic music.
Fernando favours a mixture of operetta, classical music and musique concrète. He blends this repertoire with minimal techno. Although it could be argued that his techno is 4/4 most of the time, this is precisely what makes Martes a compelling album; and thus, Fernando Corona an interesting artist.
Martes was released by the Leaf Label in 2002.
It contains 9 tracks and has a total running time of 52 minutes approx. The first thing that strikes me about Martes, on a commercial level, is the fact that this album is able to please both purists as well as the casual listener.
Martes kicks off with Memoria. This track opens with large dramatic surges of violin...

Advantages: Amazing music, brilliant songs and good vocals. Disadvantages: Some of the songs could be a bit longer, but other than that the whole things amazing.
...Once upon a time, in a land far, far away...a teenage boy sat down with his family to watch Once Upon A Time In Mexico on DVD. The dashing, young chappy had never seen or heard of this film before, although his parents said they enjoyed it very much. He sat down with some pringles and a glass of orange squash and enjoyed the whole film. The next following days he couldn't help but talk about it to all his friends, many who hadn't seen it were persuaded to do so by the boy. One of the main things he liked about the film, besides the story and acting, was the music that accompanied the film. So, he set out to buy the soundtrack for just £6.99 from HMV. As soon as he got home he played the CD and was amazed by how brilliant each song was. From that day on he constantly listened to the album at least once a day, playing it as background...
