funny-funny choice of moniker. It doesn't prepare you for Ming Star's mood of sustained ambient noir. Brooks provides us here with that old ambient chestnut, the imaginary soundtrack, with the track "Bakerloo (Ma in Titles)" reprised as "Bakerloo (end Credits)". There are a number of electronic tone poems here to areas of London ("Kentish Town", "Kite Hill", "Theydon"), recalled through the grainy filter of nostalgia. However, these aren't wistfully fragrant musical recollections, a la St Etienne but shadowy and sinister ones. "Kentish Town", for instance, with its swelling, scratchy guitar chord approaching like a distant, giant wave, is shot through with a sense of indefinable menace, while "The Watchmaker's Hands", though based on some half-remembered Friday afternoon TV show from the 70s, is evocative but more reminiscent of Edgar Allen Poe in its lurking chimes. "The Stalker Song" is more explicitly disturbing, with what sounds like Channel 5 police documentary tape of a police counsellor advising a victim. Comparisons with Air frequently spring to mind but there's something nasty in this particular air. It's chill-out music that gives you the shivers. --David Stubbs

Advantages: Digitally Remastered on CD Disadvantages: None
...As a follow up to my review on The King & I, comes....
The Original King & I Soundtrack.
You've watched the film, now listen to the music again and again and again........
The King & I stars Yul Brynner is the Broadway role that made his career and won him an Oscar, and Deborah Kerr as the English women who arrives in Siam to tutor the countless wives and children of the King.
The two clash over cultural differences and each learns about the other's world.
Rodgers & Hammersteins fine musical settings are delivered to a good effect in this Digitally Remastered Edition available on this 21 track CD from many music outlets priced between £8.69 - £12.99. The cheapest price I found at Tesco - which is where I bought this and the dearest I have found this CD was in HMV costing £12.99. Got myself another bargain, eh?

THE KING. Review ofReload - Tom Jonesby
comradeward
Advantages: wide variety of co-singers Disadvantages: a new style for Tom
...FORGET ELVIS. TOM JONES IS THE NEW KING. Not bad for a man with greying hair. He's had top ten hits in four different decades. This latest album might be his best release ever. He's obviously extremely popular amongst celebrities, as he boasts a huge range of stars, doing duets on this CD: James Dean Bradfield (Manic Street Preachers), Cerys Matthews (Catatonia), Robbie Williams, Portishead, Space, the Cardigans, Natalie Imbruglia, and many more.. . .
Despite his age, he still displays his crotch as often as possible, and the best of luck to him! I hope he carries on as long as Sinatra, though he's better than that boring old crooner. But seriously, this is a really excellent album, its upbeat, catchy and entertaining. It'll be a classic within a decade....

An excellent score Review ofLion King, The (Original Soundtrack) - Original Soundtrackby
tbreeze
Advantages: Wonderful score & arrangement of songs Disadvantages: A few poor songs
...I have never been an Elton John fan, and I still do not like his music. That said, I do love this soundtrack to "The Lion King". I do, however believe that the real star of this recording is not Elton John, but composer Hans Zimmer, who composed the entire incidental score and arranged many of the songs. He has turned songs which I don't particularly like into ones which I enjoy, if only for their arrangements. The contrast between the Elton John and Hans Zimmer versions can been heard, as the original songs, as performed by Elton John are included at the end of the recording. The incidental music, which I believe is the best part of this recording, is very melodic and extremely emotional....
