live CD culled from various concerts on their 2004 tour. Minimum-Maximum is essentially a greatest-hits album with an audience applauding and occasionally shouting. Without them, of course, you'd never know the album was live, since Kraftwerk is the band that put the programming in pop music. Not much has changed with them since the 1980s. They're still wired to the same sonic circuitry as on Electric Café in 1986, sculpting glistening electro-soundscapes that pulse but never quite groove. And they still sing in that flat, German-accented English and French with Speak and Spell electro-voices. But rather than sound dated, this has a timeless charm, especially since Kraftwerk are among the few Kraut rock groups with a sense of humor. With only two studio albums in the last 20 years, you have to give them credit for not caving in to current electronica and techno trends--Kraftwerk remain resolutely electronic. Even their samples sound synthesized. But also give them credit for some of the most relentlessly glistening electronic music ever crafted, and a sound that remains surprisingly pure. All the hits are here, from "Autobahn" to "Tour de France," but nicely buffed to a high chrome finish. --John Diliberto

Advantages: Breath-taking, glorious electro Disadvantages: Um, not many
...I recently read an interview with Chris Martin of Coldplay in which he stated that Kraftwerk were one of his favourite bands. Why? Because, and I quote "?one day it clicked and it was the best music I'd ever heard." Now, I have given his opinion, because I'm sure many of you will be doubtful of mine when I tell you that Kraftwerk are one of the best bands in the world.
Already owning such classics as Autobahn, The Man-Machine and Radioactivity, I was, of course, ecstatic when I heard about a new live album and accompanying DVD. One of the major criticisms levelled at Kraftwerk over the years is that they cannot perform exciting live shows because their music seems so static. (Which, might I add, it isn't.) However, the people making these rash judgements have clearly never experienced the magnitude of this album. The music is simply...

Advantages: Fantastic audio visual feast Disadvantages: $ germans Standing Still
...How interesting can it be to watch a bunch of senior German men stand still on stage for over 2 hours whilst they play minimalist robotic techno music on their laptops?
It really does not sound that interesting but in actual fact it is a fantastic and amazing visual treat. Right from the start of this DVD when the introduction Kicks in welcoming us in very formal German you know that the man-machines are going to be great. By the time you are half way through their performance of The Man Machine, you are totally engrossed if this is the sort of thing you like.
The performances are highly slick but definitely live, as they rummage through their extensive back-catalogue of highly minimalist robotic pop. Almost everything a Kraftwerk fanatic could want is here from the sinister Man-Machine with its repetitive techno phrases...

Advantages: Character development, Sigourney Weaver Disadvantages: Bad CGI, repetitive action scenes, plot holes
...Few films have had as much troubled production as Alien 3. Director David Fincher was brought into the project late into its development; there were numerous creative differences in scriptwriting; not to mention all the pressure of living up to the successes of the two near-perfect blockbusters that preceded it. Fincher reportably disowned the film before editing even began.
Deep in hyper sleep, Ripley, Newt, and Hicks, crash land in their escape pod after an onboard fire on the Sulaco spaceship. Ripley is the only survivor, and when she finally comes around she is suspicious as to what actually started the fire in the first place. Unluckily for her, and everyone else, an alien somehow had gotten onto her ship and is now deciding to wreck havoc inside the planet's maximum security prison. With no weapons or functional technology...
