To sum this album up in a sentance... What a bitter disappointment.
This album starts off poorly and goes downhill from there. A brief blip in the form of track 6 (What I've done) which to be fair is a bit of a mixbag.
The list of faults is endless, the complete lack of metal in a supposed nu-metal album takes the biscuit! Add to that the sudden urge of Linkin Park to start swearing in their songs it gets bloody shambolic! Linkin Park used to be about innovation and transcending genres for the HipHop meets rock style of NuMetal. So quite why they decided to sell out and jump on the slow rock/emo badwagon is beyond me. Of all the bands to water down their latest release it hurts the most to see Linkin Park fall in to this category because lets face it this is Linkin Park! The fans who spent their early teens listening to Hybrid Theory and Meteora will be sickened by the soppiness and whiny emo singing of Bennington, couple that with the decision to jump on the anti George Bush train and you just get the impression they're craving acceptance. Linkin Park have never needed to swear to sell records, they've never needed to water down their music or namedrop authority figures to appeal to the mainstream audience but by George (no pun intended) thats exactly what they've done!
Tracklist (Stool by stool breakdown)
Track1 - Wake: Standard intro to be honest, builds the hype well! Shame about the rest of the album.
Track2 - Given up: 5/10 Bang out of order! (Song does atleast have some resemblence to old LP to be fair.. but the need to swear to attract the 15 year old emos is a bit sad)
Track3 - Leave out all the rest: 5/10 Not one of the slowest songs on the album and to be fair is slightly catchy in the chorus.
Track4 - Bleed it out 4/10 Production is awful. First song to feature Shinoda rapping and he uses the opportunity to reproduce old LP lyrics and include swearing. Song is one of the highlights in the album which isnt saying too much.
Track5 - Shadow of the day 2/10 Complete cake take! Listen to the first few lines and you'd be forgiven for thinking this was U2.
Track6 - What I've done 7/10 First single from the album and probably the best song on the thing. Credit where its due, a pretty good song.
Track7 - Hands held high 4/10 Shinoda does his best Eminem impression on this one! More Fort Minor than Linkin Park. Lets think of a new idea.. Hey why dont we make a song about George Bush! Now thats innovation!
Track8 - No more sorrow: 7/10 Gordon Bennington! Now it's Chesters turn to try politics! Good Linkin Park sound to it tho which counts for something I guess!
Track9 - Valentines day: 0/10 It's not actually My Chemical fartpants.. this kids is Linkin Park! This song defines the emo genre.
Track10 - In between: 1/10 There's a reason Shinoda hasnt sang on either of the previous albums and this is it... Doesnt deserve to be heard by millions
Track11 - In pieces: 0/10 Skip this track if you want to stay awake.
Track12 - The little things you give away: 0/10 Linkin Park does ballads! Wow!! Count the instruments on this track.. 2 maybe? AVOID
At 43 minutes this is one of the longer Linkin Park albums. A band notorious for poor value for money in terms of album length succeed in making a longer album but failed in offering VALUE for money.
Seriously avoid this album at all costs! I feel angry and disgusted that I paid out for this CD. I'm seriously considering sending this garbage to the Linkin Park fanmail address with the words utter shambollicks written on the front. Linkin Park have had fans flocking away in droves. I've no doubt the mainstream audience will love this album but to the loyal fans this sucks of sellout.

Minutes to Midnight stands to defend Linkin Park's status as the hardest-rockin' softies ... more
in mainstream music. Like its predecessors Hybrid Theory (2000) and Meteroa (2003), Minutes to Midnight flexes plenty of decibel-heavy muscle ("Given Up," "Bleed I...
