One day somebody was bound to do it, but it could have been totally naff: praise be, this ... more
tango Mass is a total success. Conceived by composer Luis Bacalov, an Argentinian Jew who lives in Rome, it welds what might be thought disparate elements--operatic solo voices and clubland instruments from Buenos Aires--into an entirely satisfying unity. Verdi is the first thought that comes to mind as the chorus begin the Kyrie, and the Gloria which follows it has strong echoes of Bernstein, hotly pursued--as a solo violin swings into tango rhythm--by Piazzolla. And it's appropriate that the last two tracks should be Bacalov's own arrangements of two Piazzolla classics, "Adios Nonino" and the immortal "Libertango". Bacalov himself officiates brilliantly at the piano: the tenor is none other than Plácido Domingo, in sweetly mellifluous voice. Myung-Whun Chung and the choir and orchestra of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia provide the musical foundations on which Hector Ulises Passarella weaves gracefully angular patterns on his bandoneon. --Michael Church

Advantages: Tasty Disadvantages: Probably not as good as Fanta...
Kids today will probably think of Tango as a poor man's Fanta. I remember a time when it ruled supreme, with adverts of men in orange body suits going round slapping people. It was a wonderful time. But has the orange stuff stood the test of time? Can it compete with the Fanta market?
It sprung up controversy recently when it's advertising slogan was "Tango With Added Tango"...nothing untowards there, but as the slogan put the words on top of one another, if you put the first letters of each of the words together then you'll see the problem...see what I mean?!
Tango is simply an orange fizzy drink filled with sugar and sweeteners. on the black and orange can, it does state that 65% of people preferred Tango to other leading orange fizzy drinks in a blind taste test. Why? Well, it's a strong, sweet orange flavour - much better ...

"Who the Hell do you think you are?" screams an LA County Deputy at Sylvester Stallone in the opening scene of Andrei Konchalovsky's buddy-cop action-comedy. "He thinks he's Rambo!" another Deputy intervenes. "Rambo," however, "is a pussy," and Sly doesn't want to be a pussy.
In case you were somehow unaware that Stallone played the one man wrecking machine, John Rambo, at his prime in the 1980s, you would have missed the joke here. For everyone else, the sight of Stallone wearing glasses and an Armani suit, acting a dick by poking fun at his main source of income (besides Rocky) is quite hilarious. Well, I thought so anyway...
Ray Tango (Stallone's character) is portrayed as wealthy and intelligent; while Gabe Cash, his soon-to-be-partner, (Russell) is seen as the scruffy, cocky one of the two. (Did I just say 'cocky'? That's two ...
