Many of the die hard Marillion fans were horrified to see their idols propping up the top end of the singles chart with Kayleigh and Lavender, the nearest the group have come to 3 minute pop songs, but in actual fact, in the context of the angst ridden concept album, Misplaced Childhood, Kayleigh and Lavender were very much business as usual. From the haunting synth intro to Pseudo Silk Kimono, to the hate filled vocals of White Feather, Misplaced Childhood represents arguably the finest Fish era release. The album culminates a lyrical trilogy that began with Script For A Jesters Tear and the personal and soul searching lyrics complimented by the full and complex music make it unbelievably emotive and essential listening from start to finish.
