Michael Caine is a brilliant actor, just as well, but his choice of roles is notoriously wayward when it comes to commercial issues, of course. Like he?s, on porpoise choosing only the once he wants. However, if we take look at his career, we might say he deserved this privilege of choosing. After astonishing, Oscar-nominated ?The Quiet American?, there's a new role of a bad guy in ?The Statement?. Here?s little pleasure for people who enjoy plotting conspiracy films. Review of The Statement (DVD)

* Bad Jimmy! *

Advantages: None!
Disadvantages: Everything!

The other week I was out shopping , when I decided to have a rummage in one of the many charity shops in my local town. I find shops like these great for finding DVDs and books (quite often , in very good condition!) at a really good price , and so I find by buying these this way I save a lot of a money and get more DVDs for a £10 in the shop , than I can if I buy them on the internet. Browsing through the huge collection of DVDs , all standing neatly on the shelves before my eyes , One with a red cover caught my eyes. 'Jimmy Carr : In Concert' was the title. I didn't really know much about this Jimmy Carr , although I remember him being a guest on a television chat show programme (I think it was Charlotte Church's show) and finding him quite funny , and so I decided what he was really like as a stand-up comedian. DEADPAN JIMMY RIDES AGAIN

Advantages: Fast paced and topical joke telling at its best
Disadvantages: DVD Extras could have been better

Jimmy Carr is obviously a man who loves his work - on a recent chat show he explained that on completing a mammoth one hundred and sixty date tour he simply starts all over again. He spends more than half his life travelling the length and breadth of the British Isles delivering his unique deadpan rapid fire style of joke telling and observations on life, love and the worlds many problems. And for me it's not hard to see why he enjoys touring so much, he seems so much at home in front of a live audience, he knows how to play to them, how to deliver his jokes with impeccable timing, always articulate and well observed. Many people will be familiar with Jimmy Carr as the host of the successful Channel four quiz show 'eight out of ten cats', but if you were expecting more of the same you may well be disappointed.
