Advantages: Classic track 'Bulldozer' & 4 bonus tracks, good production job Disadvantages: By far the worst Machine Head Album let down by weak lyrical content
...parts the song is only saved by its heavier moments. There are far too many squealing guitar effects layered onto the clean moments that really dont suit these guys, what a shame!!!
Why? should be the title to 'Crashing Around You' the albums main single. Why did Robb think for a second that anyone would like this song, there are instant comparisons to the much better but still unusual rap-metal flavour of 'From This Day' from the past effort. This song just sat in a heap with all the other Nu-Metal plodders of the time.
'Kick You When Your Down' good punked up track with a fast paced riff that opens the song. Except for that damned organ playing as Robb sings the title to the track leading into the chorus. Again this track has some Rap-Metal Icing on a rotten cake, another miss guided shot.
'Only The Names' Here we can appreciate...

Advantages: Not overlong at 10 tracks, gets better with each listen. Disadvantages: Opening track not the strongest.
...All the best records take a few listens (at least) to reveal their true nature. On first play this sounded like a typical 2nd album - longer tracks, less up-tempo. A month on this has to be my favourite CD of 2007. Nearly all the 10 tracks have resolved into fantastic, atmospheric (and not always gloomy!) tales of urban life and escape. Great tunes underpin the songs, with the now-trademark steepling guitar riffs standing out most in the choruses. Some not unwelcome echos of The Smiths are to be found in the lyrics, most obviously in the title track, but tracks like Weight of the World and Escape The Nest are really uplifting, the latter also containing the finest moments on the album with its soaring, thrilling chorus. What a live track that promises to be... Recommended!
Ok then, what about the digipak? Well if you like a glossy...

Advantages: One of the best Nu Metal albums that has ever been released. Disadvantages: It is imperfect, there was definitely room for improvement.
...a number of brilliant tracks that the band have to offer us. The album begins well with the track '742617000027' and from here on in it is just one full on assault from the band as they smash their way through this album with great venom and fury. The music is fast and frantic, the drum beats are always excellent, but the vocals are at times really quite laughable. Those not in the know always seem to see Slipknot as quite an extreme band, but in truth this is not really the case at all. Their music combines elements of alternative metal, rap metal, and hip-hop, sometimes to disastrous effect and other times the music that is created is absolutely excellent.
'Wait and Bleed' is without doubt my favourite track from this album, it is an absolutely excellent display of Nu Metal from Slipknot and is one track from this release that never...
