No, they're not something you put on a bagel. The Lox are the first rap group released on Bad Boy Entertainment. With MONEY, POWER & RESPECT, Bad Boy continues its hit streak, relying on true street ethics and flawless, rugged production. Defying the standard for most hip hop groups, the three MCs out of Yonkers, New York boast similar vocal styles, but still manage to complement each other through lyrical content.
Although the Lox are touted as underground hip-hop, they have already shown their cross-over appeal on the Puff Daddy classic "It's All About The Benjamins." The Lox, which stands for Living On eXperience, deliver both their trademark hardcore style, on songs such as "Money, Power & Respect" and "Goin' Be Some Sh#t," and Puffy-influenced dance tracks, i.e. "So Right."

Album Reviews: Rolling Stone (3/5/98, p.65) - 3.5 Stars (out of 5) - "...It's a hardcore hip-hop album leavened by the party principle....It's whatever-works hip-hop, carried off in the same spirit that Puffy resurrects David Bowie or the Police for their bad bass lines..."
Entertainment Weekly (2/13/98, p.70) - "...There's plenty of infectious, party-ready hooks on this debut, along with the same kind of hard-edged rhyming and lyrically vivid images Biggie found in the hood." - Rating: A-
The Source (3/98, p.187) - 3.5 Mics (out of 5) - "...From underdogs to favorites, from rags to riches, The Lox have finally done their part to prove that all the premature acclaim was justified..."
Rap Pages (4/98, p.116) - 3 (out of 5) - "...The buzz surrounding them promised to bridge the chasm between underground and the commercial equation Bad Boy has capitalized..."

Got Your Vans On?
Review of Based Boys (Parental Advisory) [PA] - Pack (The) by  XICripZ

Advantages: Some club bangers
Disadvantages: Inconsistent

...able to attract girls which swing both ways. I felt that the strong beats returned with this one and so pulled me back in as it when away from the House style to some degree here. It is a fly joint and the eccentric flows from the rappers suit it for this joint. **Four Stars** 5. ?Gimme Racks? The bass pounds in this one and I felt that it was just what the album needed here as you get one which uses just the essentials which make the Hyphy seen what it is (and move it went to diversify to make sub-sub0genres such as Jerkin?. It is a powerful one and it has them telling you about the lifestyle in these ends for geeky rappers such as themselves. **Four Stars** 6. ?The Milky Way? You would expect that there is bound to be a lift as the Bass producer who innovated Snap Music (DJ Smurf, and now Mr. Collipark) gets on the beats... Read review

'The Eminem Show': self dissection 101.
Review of Eminem Show, The (Parental Advisory) [PA] - Eminem by  Vheissu

Advantages: lyricism (upto a point), production.
Disadvantages: 'Drips', extensive length.

...'s beautiful, But you'll never see her - she won't even be at your funeral" - documenting his thoughts toward her since he hit the big time, it's overly honest in places, and is something which justifies the parental advisory sticker that adorns the album itself. The one undeniable thing as regards any Eminem album, is the lyrics. Honesty, fuelled through expletives, isn't something a youngster should hear. Throwing around swear word upon swear word would generally become tiring, were it not for the strengths of the lyrics around them - something which helps 'The Eminem Show' to prosper through it's controversy. 'Soldier', another of the albums strong moments, aims random nastiness at anyone and everyone - " Pull it, squeeze it, 'til its empty, tempt me, push me, pussies. I need a good reason to give this trigger a good squeeze". Looking past... Read review

They're Going. Goin'...
Review of Tipping Point, The (Parental Advisory) [PA] - Roots (The) by  XICripZ

Advantages: Lots of big tunes
Disadvantages: Nothing specific

...?The Tipping Point? came out in 2004, and was the sixth album to be released from the Philadelphia Hip Hop band, The Roots. Led by ?uestlove on the drums and Black Thought as the MC, this sees further developments as Ben Kenney and Scratch had left the group. However they were still capable of bring the same high-energy Hip Hop that they had been known for since their debut 1990 album, ?Organix?. 1. ?Star/Pointro? 2. ?I Don?t Care? The funky grooves which begin this song shows a side of The Roots which they don?t ten to get into as much as you find them doing more of a commercial song with Dom singing on the hook, and giving the rest of the performers a chance to do something which deal with issues which are a lot more broadly understood, however Thought keeps it how it should be ? raw. **Five Stars** 3. ?Don?t Say Nuthin??
