Advantages: Great Rock Album With a Touch of Psyche Disadvantages: only a touch of psyche and space rock
Funny how things turn out, I was initially going to slate this record as I was bitterly disappointed by it, but as I am listening to it I am slowly realising what a good album it is. Good but not as great as some of their previous releases, which is the reason for my disappointment. There have been quite a few changes in Monster Magnet since 2001’s “God Says No”. First they have wrestled themselves free of Major Label hell and signed to an independent. ... ...on the way. However as the main creative force in the band is Dave Wyndorf (Vocals/ Guitar / Keyboards) this is not as big an impact as Queens of the Stone Age loosing Nick Oliveri.
Anyhow onto the record, this is not the psychedelic space rock behemoth of an album I wanted or expected but there are shades of that here on occasion. This is a more of a heavy rock album with a seasoning of psyche and space rock. There are gratuitous Spinal Tap moments ...
