The soundtrack is brilliant to listen to. It is exceptionally humorus and very witty and the music is brilliant to listen to. Songs such as THe song that go's like this are brilliant worked and have poet meaning within the lyrics. ALthough sparking humor it also has a lot of truth in it, when you get to down to the bare lyrics. Other classic python songs are brilliantly encorperated and new ones like you wont succeed on broadway if you dont have any jews are masterful. the whitty humor and skill of the the music and lyrics makes it a pleasure to listen to.
Even if you have seen it on stage the soundtrack is well worth having. Its not as good as the real thing as it misses out lots of jokes and parts of the storyline and only has the songs but it is stil brilliant and soemthing that will put a smile to your face whenever you watch it.
Advantages: Humorous lyrics delivered with real panache Disadvantages: You might prefer to have seen the stage show first
What to say about this cast album? I think I should start by saying that it's probably better once you've seen the show so you get the full effect of the songs in their place within the story, although I had heard snippets of the songs prior to seeing the show and they made me want to see the show even more.
The CD is from the Broadway production of Spamalot "lovingly ripped off" from the film MontyPython and the Holy Grail, featuring Tim Curry, Hank Azaria and David Hyde-Pierce but the same songs are featured in the current West End production. Each song contains some wonderfully dire rhyming and very funny lines. Apart from the songs featured in previous MontyPython works, the lyrics and music are by Eric Idle and John Du Prez so they are still in keeping with the Python style.

Album Notes
Composer: John Du Prez. Composer/Lyricist: Eric Idle. Original Broadway Cast: David Hyde Pierce, Hank Azaria, Tim Curry, Christopher Sieber, Michael McGrath, Steve Rosen, Christian Borle. Recording information: Right Track Studios, New York, New York. Silliness abounds on the Broadway cast recording of MONTY PYTHON'S SPAMALOT, a loose adaptation of the revered (and much-quoted) film MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL. Penned by Python member Eric Idle (along with his musical collaborator John Du Prez), SPAMALOT follows the absurd adventures of King Arthur (Tim Curry) and his Knights of the Round Table, including Sir Robin (David Hyde Pierce) and Sir Lancelot (Hank Azaria). While the production plays into the conventions of the musical, with plenty of over-the-top singing, it also subverts those cliches, most notably on the hilarious "The Song That Goes Like This," which skewers the Broadway standard of sugary-sweet romantic duets (where a couple can "overact like hell"). Throughout SPAMALOT, cheeky Python-esque humor is always on hand, so much so that the production even includes "Always Look on the Bright Side Of Life," the classic sing-along number from another favorite Python movie, LIFE OF BRIAN.
Album Reviews
Rolling Stone (No. 975, p.76) - 3 stars out of 5 - "[D]avid Hyde Pierce, Tim Curry and others [belt out] spoofy and ridiculously clever tunes that don't need to be seen to be believed or enjoyed."
