In The Mood for a Moonlight Serenade??

Advantages: Excellent music, Left behind a great legacy
Disadvantages: He died

's breakthrough. On May 17th Glenn's Orchestra played to a sold out audience at Glen Island Casino, New Rochelle and by the end of the session all box office records had been broken. At the beginning of September they travelled to Baltimore and played at the Hippodrome Theatre again all box office records had been broken from there Glenn's Orchestra moved to New York and played at the State Fair in front of the biggest ever audience. It was on April 4th of the same year that Glenn Miller composed his signature tune 'Moonlight Serenade' and 'In The Mood' later in the year. Towards the end of 1939, Glenn Miller's orchestra had gone from strength to strength and Glenn's unique sound had people hooked. The band were now playing on the radio three times a week for the next two and a half years sponsored by the Chesterfield Cigarette Company as ...

A String of Pseudo Pearls

Advantages: Excellent backing tracks, competent vocals, a couple of strong pop hits
Disadvantages: Not much in the way of soul, some dull tracks, all rather dated now

mind that in 1972 "The Black & White Minstrel Show" was still one of the top rated TV shows, which tells you something about the era. The Pearls were signed to the Bell label ? which had some hugely popular acts on their roster including the Bay City Rollers, Barry Blue, David Cassidy and Gary Glitter. The UK arm of the label focused mainly on commercial pop and the Pearls fitted into this perfectly. Interestingly the US arm tended to focus more on soul music. A String of Pearls Going back to my dad?s old Sanyo radio cassette recorder there was a song which was oft played by myself back in 1974 called ?Guilty?. Performed by the Pearls I loved it and have vague recollections of a Top of the Pops performance which incorporated judges? wigs. I have hunted high and low for this clip on the internet and sadly can only conclude it was ...

Simply Serenaded

Advantages: Gets baby to sleep
Disadvantages: See the op.

On having our baby my hubby and me went into town to look for a baby night light preferably one that played nice calming tunes. After looking in several shops we decided to go into Argos and look through their catalogue. Seeing several different ones we were comparing prices and to how many tunes there was on each one, there was one that just played one tune and needed to be set on a set of draws or some thing, another one with just images of winnie the pooh, and one that was an aquarium that played four gentle nature sounds and two lullaby?s. So as you can see there are quite a few different ones available. The one that caught our eye the most was the ?Playskool Sleepytime Serenade? It was priced somewhere in between the others at £19.99 and seemed like the best buy of the lot as it played a massive NINE tunes! The only ...
