Advantages: Easy listening, fulfilling, comforting Disadvantages: Repetitive, predictable, too many ballads
..."the good Lord gave us mountains so we could learn how to climb" - facing the tough times in life and beating them! This is a song to start the album.
2. Nothing to prove
This song starts off slow then finds its beat. The lyrics are fast in comparison to the beat but is an ok "slow" song to sing along to. I found this song too "normal" and nothing out of the ordinary. A fairly dissapointing ... ..."wild-west" backgroud feeling to it. Another ballad again but with a bit more power. The song tells the story about a girl who drives away fast to get away from her drunk boyfriend - and feeling free and full of strength. The song is strong in itself but the lyrics really pull this one together.

This is the latest album from Lonestar at the current time, and being a life-long Lonestar fan I have to say I was really dissappointed in this album. After two or three listens it went back onto the cd rack for a few months until i recently decided to give it another chance, afterall Lonestar have never dissappointed in the past so it deserved another go. I have to say, it proved me wrong, i guess it is one of those cds you just have to listen to a few times! The album start off with a great song, being the released single "Mountains" but until the middle of the album I felt it was "ok but good". The latter half of the album is much better. It is a very emotional album behind the lyrics - possibly too many ballad and slow-songs for my liking of Lonestar but all in all a good listen......given a few chances.
1. Mountains
This is the first released single on the album. The introductary drumming of this songs gets you into the album to start with but drops to slowness and then really belts into the song in true feel-good factor style!! This song goes up and down from ballad to up-beat all the way through but doesn't disappoint. The song tells the story about how "the good Lord gave us mountains so we could learn how to climb" - facing the tough times in life and beating them! This is a song to start the album.
2. Nothing to prove
This song starts off slow then finds its beat. The lyrics are fast in comparison to the beat but is an ok "slow" song to sing along to. I found this song too "normal" and nothing out of the ordinary. A fairly dissapointing track after "Mountains".
3. This has a "wild-west" backgroud feeling to it. Another ballad again but with a bit more power. The song tells the story about a girl who drives away fast to get away from her drunk boyfriend - and feeling free and full of strength. The song is strong in itself but the lyrics really pull this one together.
4. Thought it was you
This song starts off promising with its strung-out guitar sounds, its upbeats but the long stretched out lyrics makes this song too laborious. It has both a combination of upbeat and downbeat to it which works well with the actual song lyrics about how he thought this woman was the one he was "meant to find forever with" only to find out she has married someone else, and he still thinks about her waiting for that someone else in a lost world! The upbeatness of this track comes from the happytimes he remembers but the downbeat slowness comes from the sadness he feels instead that she is no longer his! This is something I'm sure many people can relate to.
5. Hey God
This is my least favourite song on the album and after listening to it many times it still does not grow on me. If you like ballads then this may appeal to you. Dont get me wrong, i enjoy ballads too when you're feeling especialy emotional but this ballad is too slow. This song is largely religious, thanking God for the good and happiness he has brought to his family and how he is "humbled by His grace". This song is very much about the lyrics and the music is dissappointing in comparison to Lonestar's usual musical talent.
6. I wanna do it for you
This is the point in the album where the best really is saved until last. This song is a good song to sing along to. Even though it is an enjoyable song I found it to be too safe....there were a few points where power of guitars and drums couldv'e taken hold and give the song some umph. Again, slightly on the ballad side of things yet still maintaining some beat. This song is about how he wants to show the girl that he could be the one for him, and how scared she is to commit to someone.
7. Cowboy girl
This song is Lonestar at their best! In typical Lonestar style is great musically, lyrically and sing-along dance-tastic. It is one of those song that makes you feel wild. This is brought about by both the tone of how the lyrics are sang and the rockyness of the guitars. In true counry-style this is about a "cowboy girl, tough on the leather, wilder than the 4th of July. She's a cowboy girl, if you wanna catch her, man you gotta know how to ride". This is a great song, very catchy and one that can make you go straight to the track when you put the album on!
8. What she had to
A ballad again but not laborious. This is an emotional song and the lyrics make you feel this way. This song is about when he was three years old and his mother pulled out a gun to kill their dad because he was forever drunk and beating her. In his eyes she was doing the right thing, but he was always thinking "Thank God that gun wasn't loaded". The music of this song complete with lyrics makes you feel the emotion that the little boy was feeling and it completely works as a song!
9. One of those nights
This song somewhat feels mildly raunchy by both the music and lyrics about a wild night in bed followed by a wild day and then by another "one of those nights" The beats of this song are up there, with a mix of country and pop and a touch of rock. Listen to this song, it WILL get you singing!
10. Careful where you kiss me
This is another one of Lonestars safe songs. It is a track which feels like it needs some more power to it but never quite gets there. This is probably one of the weakest on the album feeling constantly on one level. The song in itself? True country-rock style but the lyrics are not typically story-telling!
11. Always in the band
This song really makes you listen and kind of shocks you! It tells the story of how he has always been in the band no matter what. The story tells you how he fell in love but missed the chance to ask his dream girl out because he was out with the band, then he'd get her number and watch his chance get dance away because he was in the band, when he got married then couldn't take their honeymoon because he had to see a thousand screaming fans, and then he later missed the birth of this first child because of this band! The lyrics in this song truely shock you into thinking he thought more of his band than his wife and family. This is a slow but moving ballad, and powers up towards to end when he realises the emotions of it all but "Thank God she understands".
All in all, this album needs a chance. You won't be moved by the first listen. In comparison to other albums, it is very safe and shows that on its "first impression". C'mon Lonestar - take some more risks and bring us back what you're truly best at! ♫
Lonestar: Keech, Dean, Michael, Richie (vocals). On their seventh album, Lonestar continue to ply their trade: mainstream contemporary country in the Nashville traditionalist style of Alan Jackson or Alabama. As always, the quartet's music is rooted in country from the pre-Garth Brooks age, with few of the soft-rock influences endemic to early-21st century Nashville. Songs like the title track and the sweet-natured single "Nothing To Prove" recall the glory days of folks like Randy Travis, Clint Black, and George Strait. Elsewhere, the sly "Careful Where You Kiss Me" and the celebratory "Cowboy Girl" play up the band's image as the sensitive but frisky beefcake cowboys, while "Hey God" is another of the band's reoccurring statements of faith.
