"Mr. Brown" is the second solo album from the Georgia Soul singer, Sleepy Brown. Heavily-associate with the Hip Hop acts in the area, such as OutKast, Dungeon Family and Goodie Mob, Sleepy Brown got his name up with big collaboration with these acts and producing for them as part of Organized Noize before comiong up with his first big label album in 2006.
1. "I'm Soul"
We are kicked of in a big way with a gentle one from the artist. It has him ease his way inot things by coming with a track which has him work withvery little in the way of lyrics, and simply repeat the chorus for the majority of the thing. Despite it lengthy duration, he keeps the listeners engaged from start to finish with it.
**Four Stars**
2. "Margarita"
This is the main single off the album and has Sleepy work alongside The Neptunes for an up-tempo
one. The combo of Pharrell and Sleepy Bronw seems to be a great one, and highly effective for the thing. You also get OutKast's Big Boi lending a few lines to him to give it some Hip Hop appeal.
**Four Stars**
3. "Get To It"
The artist doens't play around with words at all for this, one he talks about exaclty what he wants from a girl, andhow he hopes to get it. You get him smooth things out with a soft composition and a great vocal performance.
You get an up-lifting one from the singer as he get into some smooth stuff to get you two-stepping and just in a mellow mood as you just chill while you loosen up with a little dance. It is quite simplistic, and wasn't very engaging enough to actually make you do any of this though.
**Two Stars**
5. "One Of Dem Nights"
Personally, I foudn this to be the best track on the album as it has Sleepy go all out on some funky prodcution (done by himself and Printz Board). This one really gets you moving as he uplifts you with a calming voice, which is very easy on the ear.
Personally, I felt very little when I heard this track as it is a rather plain one, in which the Soul singer, Sleepy Brown, does a track by himself. He opts for a slow track about the good things he enjoys in his life (all given in the title).
**Two Stars**
8. "Dance With Me"
Carl Mo gets on the prodcution for this one, and goes for something which would have been more popular around the early 2000s as you get some nice Bounce Music to aid Sleepy as he goes for another funky one, which is held together with his souful voice. I would have to liken this to matierla which he has done with OutKast on in the past, as it sounds very much like something he would have performed with them around 2003.
**Four Stars**
9. "Underwater Love"
You get him trying something different for this one as the pace is dropped, and you have him experiment with some original material and sing about "Underwater Love". It is unexpected, and works quie nicely as you get it all sang in a stop-and-go form, and watery sound effects used to create a suitable atmosphere.
**Three Stars**
10. "Till"
Organized Noize are on the beats, as they have for much of the album, and for this one they manage to engage you with mid-tempo beats, yet a soft backing, which keeps it back a little. This secondary layer seems to be the one which Sleepy works from, and comes up with a sensual song from.
**Three Stars**
11. "Sunday Morning"
I wasn't too keen on this one as you get the tempo on the same level as it has for the past few tunes, and he sings about his pleasure when waking up with the one he loves on a "Sunday Morning". It is quite predictable, and doesn't really offer much to a listener.
**Two Stars**
11. "Oh Ho Hum"
To end things off, you have the artist getting freaky. It is a great one to end things off as you have him intermix a deep vocal composition with a production, which is mainly lead by heavy bass. It is a strong way to finish things on as he returns to the general theme of the record.
**Four Stars**
To be honest, Sleepy Brown isn't really in tune with what is going on in the world of R&B today, however I thought that he was quite successful at pulling off an album which has him do things his way, and not make it seem too old-fashioned. There is a strong mix of tracks in this album, and only a couple of times where he didn't quite connect with me.
