This Doug Liman film, Mr and Mrs Smith, received a lot of press on its release in 2005, thanks to the close relationship between the two lead stars, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.
Mr and Mrs Smith is about a married couple, John (Brad Pitt) and Jane (Angelina Jolie), who are dissatisfied with their unexciting marriage and are attending marriage counselling. Advantages: Humour, on-screen chemistry, good stunts Disadvantages: Simple plot, you don't have to be a genius to watch it.
Not filmic genius, but pretty darned entertaining.
The main premise of the film is that Mr and Mrs Smith are members of opposing spy organisations. Their bosses realise what has happened and try to make them kill each other by sending them to kill the same man. The plan fails and Mr and Mrs Smith soon realise themselves what is happening and have to try to survive.
I especially liked the fact that Jolie came off so much better than Pitt through most of this film. Mrs Smith was the one with the plan, who did everything smoothly and efficiently and always got the upper hand. Mr Smith was clumsy and had a habit of running in headfirst without thinking of consequences.
You could see the chemistry between Pitt and Jolie and it's unsurprising that they got together while making this film.
The action sequences are very satisfying to watch ...
