Advantages: Original Disadvantages: Not for the easily offended
...The Golden Age of Grotesque is the fifth studio album (full length) released by the self professed Antichrist Superstar. Coming nearly three years after the superb Holywood it was eagerly awaited and whilst die hard MarilynManson fans loved it, it received mixed reviews (see end of review for some of them).
Although this isn't Manson's best offering it's still good and packs originality and punch. Influenced by a wide variety of sources, including Weimar Berlin (circa 1930!). You can't help but hear echoes of Marc Bolan and T-Rex and Nine Inch Nails - MarilynManson was signed by Trent Reznor, the NIN frontman. Fans of T-Rex and NIN will either love this CD or balk at the idea that Manson is in someway trying to emulate their sound.
What is the MarilynManson sound? For those who've never heard any of their music, it's a dark...

Advantages: Fantastic variation, and some of their best songs. Disadvantages: Songs are all fantastic, but there's no real structure to album.

While they may not be to everyone's taste, they do speak to you. Though be warned of the heavy usage of swear words, this album is definitely worthy of its parental advisory sticker.

Advantages: Some great tracks, and a great cover Disadvantages: A few, slower tracks

I wasnt really sure what I wanted, but I knew it was something different, to make a change from the re-runs of muse, and such like. I saw a small collection of MarilynManson albums and thought I would have a quick flick through, as with pretty much every single artist in the metal section - much to the disapproval of the staff.
Having already got and listened to several MarilynManson tracks, I was well aware of what I was getting. The persona of MarilynManson is often portrayed as psychotic, and deranged. However, when all is said and done this is just a metal album.
Having said that, the cover of this album isnt exactly helping my logic. Featuring a male body, that has been tied to a wall by prison-style shackles, sunken eyes and the lower jaw missing...
