Mariah Carey Music Box
To find Mariah Carey at her most innocent best you have to come to this album. To me it defines what she once was before she started wearing almost nothing and having the likes Puff Daddy all over her music. Songs like “hero” “Without You” and “Anytime you need a friend” ... Read review

pretty face, a pretty voice and a safe personality. Her songs might be full of big notes and high emotions, but they satisfied every predictable expectation of a love ballad or good-time rocker. Mariah Carey is America's sweetheart of the 1990s for the exact same reasons. Music Box topped the charts, yielding number-one singles like "Dreamlover" and "Hero." The titles, one a hollow Minnie Riperton knock-off and the other a stiff Barbra Streisand imitation, are tip-offs to Carey's reliance on untethered fantasy (she's the fantasizer in the lyrics and the fantasy object in the videos). These songs, co-written and co-produced like most of the album by Walter Anasieff and Carey herself, are constructed to show off her dizzying soprano, not to provide an original approach to a well-worn subject. Even when she gets a strong ballad to sing, like her current singles--Babyface's "Never Forget You" or Badfinger/Nilsson's "Without You"--she overdoes the self-pity bit so much that the song loses its dramatic tension. --Geoffrey Himes

To me it defines what she once was before she started wearing almost nothing and having the likes Puff Daddy all over her music. Advantages: A very good album Disadvantages: Only 11 tracks
Mariah Carey may not be a very nice person (or at least this the impression I have been given), but she does have one very brilliant voice doesn't she?!?! Her fourth album 'Music Box' is very good. It has sadly only eleven tracks, but those eleven tracks are of very excellent quality. The album includes hits such as: "Dreamlover", "Hero", "Anytime You Need A friend", and "Without You". The eleventh track is supposedly a bonus track, just as well, ... ...Never-the-less, the songs that are there are still very good. Its a shame there isn't more trakcs but, well, we can't dwell, on what hasn't happened can we. It is a good album, and Mariah's talent takes her to higher and higher places. This album, if you can still find it, is definitely worth purchasing if you are a Mariah fan. ...

Her Best Album Review ofMusic Box - Mariah Careyby
zwiggy
Advantages: Disadvantages:
If big, soppy ballads are your kind of thing, look no further than this album. “Schmaltzy garbage” is how Mariah herself describes the slow songs on this, and frankly, who can disagree with her? But back when she was married to Sony boss Tommy Mottola, nobody could do schmaltzy garbage like Mariah Carey. Her hyperactive tonsils positively soar, and if you’re in the mood for love songs, this is right up your street. Mariah made a huge mistake with ...

Out of all her albums, this would have to be the most memorable one with hits such as 'Dream Lover', 'Hero', 'Anytime you need a friend', 'Never forget You' and 'Without You' just to name a few.
Mariah has a lovely voice and you really have to be in the 'mood' to listen to her powerfully emotional songs, if you are in the emotional mood you can expect tears!
I must say that after getting her recent album 'Butterfly', 'Music Box' is still the winner ...

Advantages: nice songs, good lovesongs, my best teacher, I love singing with her Disadvantages: Mariah has totally changed
...this album is for my taste, but it has some great disco songs too. I think best Mariah's hits are on this album and it will always stay my favourite album no matter Mariah has changed, besides music is what matters not how's she's behaving! She'll always stay great singer! ...
