This is from the time when Mariah Carey used to make good music, looked good and could open her mouth and string together a sentence without sounding like a brainless bimbo. The best songs on this album are the ballads like the title track and songs like ‘Anytime you need a friend’. The faster songs are really dreadful but as there aren’t many of them this doesn’t really spoil the overall effect of the album. This is a good album but the screechy singing style does get a bit tiresome after a couple of listens and it can really give you a headache. This is definitely better than most of her later stuff but only buy it if you really liked the singles.
