Another Christmas present I was very happy to receive, I love Phil Collins' music but haven't ever got round to buying a CD so to get a set of 3 of his CD's in one was great. I Hadn't heard the majority of the tracks on the album so it was interesting to hear some of his music which was totally new to me. I am not going to review each track individually as there are 35 tracks altogether and I think everyone would be snoring before they finish reading .................
The First disc is an album called Face Value - There are 12 tracks on this disc. This was Phil Collins' first album released as a solo artist so was an important album in his career. It reached number one in 1982. 'Behind The Lines' was written by Banks, Collins, Rutherford and `Tomorrow Never Knows' was written by Lennon and McCartney. All of the other songs were written by Phil Collins. 1. In The Air TOnight 2. This Must Be Love 3. Behind The Lines 4. The Roof Is Leaking 5. Droned 6. Hand In Hand 7. I Missed Again 8.
You know What I Mean 9. Thunder And Lightning 10. I'm Not Moving 11. If Leaving Me Is Easy 12. Tomorrow Never Knows
I really like In The Air Tonight - it has a strange echoing sound to it, I had heard little bits of the chorus before on bits of things but the whole song is just as good - does sound the same all the way through really but as it is a different sound it sounds good. Some drums come in at the end of the song which liven it up a bit! Really good song, good way to open a debut solo album.
Droned is droned! Nearly 3 minutes or just music - I like music but You can't easily sing along when there's no words - I think anyone who's heard my singing would be pleased about that though!
Hand in Hand is the same again - over 5 mins of just music.
If Leaving Me Is Easy - this is a good song, very quiet but good.
The songs on this album are good but I think 1 is the maximum number of songs per album I can listen to if there are no words!
The second disc is the 'No Jacket Required' album - this contains 11 tracks. This was also a number one album in 1985 1. Sussudio 2. Only You And I Know 3. Long Long Way To Go 4. I Don't Wanna Know 5. One More Night 6. Don't Lose Me Number 7. Who Said I would 8. Doesn't Anybody Stay Together Anymore 9. Inside Out 10. Take Me Home 11. We Said Hello Goodbye
I hadn't heard of any of these song before getting this set. So was looking forward to hearing them .
Sussudio sounded a bit familiar but I'm not sure - sounds quite different to the Phil Collins Tracks I've heard so far, quite lively - is really good actually!Only you and I know is another lively track.
One More Night Is My favourite song on the album it's so nice! Probably my favourite of the 3 albums along with another day in paradise.
'We said hello, goodbye' is really good with a range of notes which makes his voice sound really good and shows off his talent. Sorry that was a terrible way of putting things I hope you get the jist! I'm not very good with musical terms I know what I hear and I hear what I like - great album! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The final CD is called '...But Seriously' and has 12 songs on it. Another number 1 Album In 1989 1. Hang In Long Enough 2. That's Just The Way It Is 3. Do You Remember? 4. Something Happened On The Way To Heaven 5. Colours 6. I Wish It Would Rain Down 7. Another Day In Paradise 8. Heat On The Street 9. All Of My Life 10. Saturday Night And Sunday Morning 11. Father To Son 12. Find A Way To My Heart
Another Day In Paradise is one of my favourite songs of all time -and probably the most well knows on this album. It is brilliant and doesn't seem to get old.
I strangely read the lyrics to Father To Son before listening to the song and thought they were really nice so listened to it and it's brilliant.
" Don't be shy, even when it hurts to say Remember, you're gonna get hurt someday, anyway Then you must lift your head, keep it there Remember what I said I'll always be with you don't forget Just look over your shoulder I'll be there."
The lyrics are so true about a father telling his son about meeting a girl and not to worry because even if it doesn't work out she's not the only one. It's fantastic!
Saturday night and Sunday Morning is bizzare! It's 1min 25secs long and is just music! Not bad music, but just music! strange. Then there is the other extreme - colours is nearly 9 minutes long!
All tracks are worth listening - a good album.
The Box Set Comes in a box with each CD in it having it's own case and insert which is good.
The set is available for 2 or 3 pounds on ebay and is still available in some shops.
A few naff songs but even my favourite albums have naff songs in. Very good - would recommend to any Phil fans!
I've noticed on this and plenty of his other albums he has to have his fat face on the cover. Why is this?!
Thanks for reading
