...Some argue Nirvana were the definition of 'grunge', others say the Pixies were...I can't see the comparison to be fair, the Pixies rather encapsulate the definition of Indie and Alternative music, and this is the 'best of' collection that they deserve - 23 tracks to showcase the Pixies history from their five albums - 'Come on Pilgrims', 'Surfer Rosa' the classic 'Doolittle', 'Bossanova' and 'Trompe le Monde' - all made within a five year time-span. The opening two tracks - 'Bone Machine', from 'Surfer Rosa', and 'Nimrod's Son' classify the alternative-ness to the Pixies style, and as my 'Disadvantages' state - it may just be TOO alternative for some, faint-hearted traditionalists, with the rhythm jumping about all over the place to Frank Black's shouting and grooving - to those new to the Pixies, you may instantly say "he can't sing... ...My God the Butthole Surfers have made it on here just as I was going to suggest them heh heh heh.............. How do you describe a band as amazingly unique as the Butthole Surfers? Well they hail from Texas and have a totally unique outlook on life, but then all the best bands have a unique outlook on life...... Electric Larryland was their last album on Capitol records and what they were doing on a major label sill confuses me, but this was the mid 90's and the labels realised that they could make money out of real alternative music, but not as much as they thought they could. Sorry for being a musical snob but I am a snob about art and refuse to appologise for it............. Advantages: Catchy tunes
Disadvantages: Repetitive tunes that sound like The Monkeys or Busted

...This review is wrtten primarly for my two younger sisters who adore McFly, personally I'm not struck on the band who appear to be a genetic hybrid of The Monkeys and Busted. McFly appeared on the popular music scene a few months ago and aspire to do as well as Busted. Both their debut single and album smashed into the charts, being bought by screaming teeny bopper fans. The band consists of Tom, Danny, Dougie and Harry who range from 16 to 18 years of age. They have made appearances on many popular television shows although often on children's television early in the mornings or at the weekends. It appears no self respecting human being takes this band seriously. The first album track is their debut single Five Colours In Her Hair which sounds rather like a Monkey-esque track to me.
