If you only buy one Nina Simone album then this is the one to buy. As the title of the album states this is 'The Very Best of Nina Simone' and it has been compiled beautifully. Before I bought the album I only knew one of her songs and yet as the album played out on my dvd player I found myself realising that I didn\'t know she had sung half the songs and that I had heard these on various films and on television advertisements. *** ME AND THIS CD *** To be honest, I bought this CD unintentionally. One night in 2006, at a local music store in Seoul, South Korea, I was looking for a legendary Jacques Brel's song called Ne Me Quitte Pas (Do Not Leave Me) when I saw this CD. I knew some songs of Nina before, such as Feeling Good, My Baby Just Cares for Me, and Mississipi Goddam, but I didn't know at the time that Nina sings Ne Me Quitta Pas too. My God! Nina sings Ne Me Quitte Pas! Without any doubt, I bought this CD along with other Nina's: The Very Best of Nina Simone the Colpix Years (2 CDs/ EMI). Several days later, a famous female Indonesian novelist, Asma Nadia (who was stayed in Seoul at the time) gave me another Nina Simone album: The Very Best of Nina Simone (© 2000, Universal Music). Nina Simone Best Of - Not Misunderstood

't let me be misunderstood'. Purely for the song's symbolic stature, written during the time of Martin Luther King, it depicts the black American's experience, and has become synonomous with those times. There are more fantastic tracks on this album - The mesmorising 'Put A Spell On You', a seductive, eligent track that just slowly sweeps you away into Nina Simone's world. There are a number of jazz tracks on this album too, the bubbly 'Work song' and the glorious 'Love me or leave me'. Her true elegance is shown in the beautiful 'Don't explain' whilst 'Mississippi Goddam' is a track that lets the real diva come out of Nina Simone. 'Strange fruit' is a track about black oppression n America and you can feel Simone's pain for her people's problems. This track is followed by another upbeat funk track 'I'm going back home'.
