Album Reviews: Rolling Stone (4/6/95, pp.64-65) - 4 Stars - Excellent - \"...The first great grunge band from Seattle has composed the last great grunge record....The result is stunning....Grunge is dead. Long live grunge...\"
...After the Muscle of Love album the original Alice Cooper group disbanded. Welcome to my nightmare was Alices first solo album and one of his best. The tour was more theatrical than past attempts and Alice new this album had to sell well to make a profit. It did and became Alices solo double platinum album. Alice plays on the schizophrenic side of his character and creates a more inncocent version of Alice named Stephen, innocent that is until he murders his beloved. The album contains :-
1. Welcome To My Nightmare
(Brilliant keyboard work, this song was a major hit)
2. Devils Food
(This song is a lead up to The Black Widow)
3. The Black Widow
(A metal song, great riffs, a cameo by Vincent Price as the musuem curator also appears, great shock rocker)
4. Some Folks
(This sounds like a broadway number but it fits in well...

...the battle.
3. Try.
As was on previous releases, this background cue is a lovely slow jazz number, perfectly suiting its Casino setting. Delightful work on the double bass, and very laid back vibes and piano make this a real treat. Naturally the remastering work has improved 'Try' immensely.

Expanded to include the pursuing SPECTRE agents brush with a snowplough, tense and full of danger, and then it leads into the avalanche sequence and the shimmering flutes that accompany Bonds recollections...

Advantages: Grace, buckley, sensational voice and lyrics, an extra song Disadvantages: Not as good as the anniversary edition, little new appeal
...sounding guitar opening before turning into a haevy punk rock song, and the lyrics to match:
"Eternal Life is now on my trail
Got my red glitter coffin, man, just need one last nail
While all these ugly gentlemen play out their foolish games
there's a flaming red horizon that screams our names"
Buckley's vocals bleed emotion and anger in what I consider the best track on the original "Grace" release. Eerything fits wonderfully well together to make this a rock classic. Theres again very little anyone can say to truly sum up the song.
10/10
Dream brother, The final sng on the original "Grace" release, was written about his friend, and speaks of his relationship with his father. Te opening guitar sounds are very "loose" strings sounding, giving it a dreamy feel, before Buckley's voice puts an arm around you and carries you through...
