Advantages: Best Colonel Pickering and Freddy Disadvantages: Amy Nuttall is no Martine McCutcheon
If you have not heard of MyFairLady, it is a musical based on the book 'Pygmalion' by George Bernard Shaw about a cockney flower girl 'learning to speak proper'.
The first musical was produced almost 50 years (1956) and starred Rex Harrison and Julie Andrews.
When the film came out it starred a miming Audrey Hepburn as Julie Andrews was not considered pretty enough to play it in the film although despite his age Rex Harrison still took the role of the professor. Stan Holloway was the superb Alfred P Doolittle. The film is undoubtedly a classic and was one of my favourites so I was keen to see the new production in London.

The first frame of the film is of the Convent Garden Opera House, London with beautiful and colourful flowers around, and the high-class operagoers are leaving the theatre, while it starts to rain. Eliza Dolittle (Audrey Hepburn), a Cockney flower seller dashes with a youthful Freddie Eynsford-Hill (Jeremy Brett) and loses her coins. She talks in her horrible accent. Colonel Pickering (Wilfrid ...
Advantages: Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison Disadvantages: None
I have a passion for musicals. So much expression and passion can come out of a song. It helps you feel what their feeling and it's really enjoyable to watch.
This film, MyFairLady, is a classic. Starring in this are two brilliant actors, Rex Harrison and Audrey Hepburn. They are absolutely wonderful in their characters and you know no-one else could ever have done their parts justice.
I am a romantic. I always have been and I love films like this. It is a story of common flower girl Eliza, who gets by selling flowers to passers by on the street. She dreams of better things singing 'Wouldn't it be Loverly'.
One day she is overheard by a professor, Professor Higgins who is taking notes on what she is saying. He is a professor of speach and can place anyone to where they where from within a few streets. He is ...
