Gary Barlow - 'My Take'

Advantages: A must for all Gary and Take That fans - even for Robbie fans, too!
Disadvantages: None

I cannot add much to the other reviews. This is an excellent read, and a 'must' for all Gary and Take That fans. Here we see the truly sensitive side of a man who was treated mercilessly by the tabloid press, especially when Robbie had his 'big break' with 'Angels' and other massive hits. This is a book written from the heart, by an intelligent, caring and loveable family man, who also happens to be one of the greatest singer/songwriters around. The chapter on the 7/7 Underground bombings of 2005, really brings it home to the reader about how bad the current times are. There is no doubt that Gary's life was greatly influenced by this. It's great that the acrimony between Gary and Robbie seems to have evaporated. I can well recommend this, as a great read. Looking forward to the new album, later this year. (Tony in ...

Review of My Take - Gary Barlow

'Have you news of my boy Jack?'

Advantages: Good acting, compelling story
Disadvantages: Depressing, distressing

because it coincided with Remembrance Day and partly because Jack is played by Daniel Radcliffe of Harry Potter fame. I generally steer clear of anything to do with war; it is almost always deeply distressing and I prefer to save my feelings for the real news. However, I was persuaded by the hype to watch it and, although I blubbed my way through most of it, it is a very worthwhile drama to watch. David Haig, who also wrote the screenplay, stars as Rudyard Kipling. Better known (to me at least) for his roles in The Thin Blue Line and Four Weddings and a Funeral, I was a little concerned at the idea of him doing a serious role. Certainly to start with, it was rather off-putting. When he is arguing with the officials who turn Jack down for a place in the Army, I kept expecting him to come out with a Thin Blue Line line, such as 'My arse is ...

Review of My Boy Jack (DVD)

I've been strutting my Peacock clothes for years!

Advantages: Cheap and cheerful
Disadvantages: Not good for the oversized!

few months that the waist on his current jacket is creeping up to his chest - poor soul! The wardrobe of my younger son who's 9 is mainly (and has been for the last 4 years), clothes from Peacocks, right down to his socks and undies, again prices very cheap compared to Next, Gap etc, I also find as with the women's choice, very up to the minute and good quality. They usually have end of season sales, also throughout the year they have rails of clothes for each section at really knock down prices, for example boys and mens t-shirt rail - I bought two for Jack - my nine year old for a £1 each, they weren't the normal bog standard plain t-shirt, they had a collar and a false insert that gives you the appearance of an extra t-shirt underneath.
