...Bic (pronounced Bec) Runga is a teeny tiny singer from New Zealand and Birds is her third studio album. You may have heard her song "Sway" (from her first album Drive) on the American Pie soundtrack. The album I have is imported from New Zealand; the UK release is slightly different. This album cover isn't much to look at. You can see from the picture that it doesn't exactly reach out and grab your attention. The booklet itself, though, has some really beautiful black and white pictures of endemic New Zealand birds as well as another portrait of Bic, also in black and white. Other than that it simply has the thanks, contributors and details of booklet production - no lyrics (in case you're a singer-alonger). ...I found this one on the shelf at Woolworths along with all the other stuff that goes for £5 when shops decide to have a clearance. I actually bought it out of interest to hear what was so bad on it that it was only worth £5 pound. Fortunately I was pleasantly suprised. Gold has a good collection of hits from his shows. The best ones were "Memory" from Cats and "Another Suitcase Another Hall" from Evita and Don't Cry for me Argentina. But there is a good sprinkling of other musicals including The Phantom of the Opera , Superstar, Whistle Down the Wind. All together there are a good twenty songs in the collection and pleanty of variety. The Cover title is Andrew Lloyd Webber Gold The definitive Hits Collection. ...Music from the TV series The Thorn Birds. The TV show was based on the 1977 novel by Colleen McCullough. A best seller at the time and impulsive viewing for ITV viewers in the UK in the early/mid 1980s. The programmes was set on a fictional farm - or "sheep station" in the Australian outback in pre-war days and focussed on the dramas that unfold and develop around the Clearys, a millionaire family. Over the years, various deaths, crises and disasters tell the Cleary family story. The disasters are deaths by fires, drowning and... if my memory serves me correctly, death by pig or wild boar! This CD features 58 tracks from the original Thorn Birds soundtrack. Whereas the music may not help the ladies with the swooning over Richard Chamberlain, as the early 80's hearthrob, the tracks do take you emotion memory back... Read review
