Advantages: beautiful architecture and atmosphere Disadvantages: why should it have any! well, kinda expensive to hang around
Le Mont Saint-Michel
The abbey at Mont Saint-Michel has been one of my dream-destinations to visit since, well, literary ages! This is how the story of my addiction started: Back in 1996 I have got a little pocket calendar with a beautiful cathedral on the front, I have fallen in love with it the moment I laid my eyes on it for the first time! However, the photo bore no description and even if I really did try, I was never able to find out what and where the place was....imagine my frustration as I'm a keen traveler and photographer! I've kept the little picture and every now and then it tortured my mind again. However, I have to say back then I had a strong suspection that it would be someplace in France as you can't iss the resemblance of French architecture. The redemption came in 2006 when my girlfriend told me we were going ...
Advantages: Suitable for all learners Disadvantages: Limited range of languages
As a graduate in Modern Languages and Linguistics, I am always interested in revolutionary techniques of learning languages. Recently I came across a series of language courses by Michel Thomas, and was very impressed. I mainly studied French and German at university, but have always wanted to learn some Italian, so thought I'd buy the 2 hour introductory course in it. I wasn't disappointed.
BASICS
Courses come in two main formats: the full 8 hour course or just the first 2 hours of the full course. The two hour course consists of 2 CDs (or cassettes) and the eight hour courses consists of 8 CDs (or cassettes). Courses are available in French, German, Spanish and Italian, and are specifically designed for those with and without prior language experience. The courses will not make you "fluent" (this takes years!), but will certainly ...
Advantages: 5.1 surround sound, Jarre at his absolute best. Disadvantages: None, even if you own the original tracks.
This is a review of the truly superb CD and DVD of Jean Michel Jarres 'Aero' which will be in split into 2 parts on this same page... i will start with the CD, then the DVD.
Firstly i would like to offer a little background to the great man and his featured recordings as i find this relevant in order to help anyone who is unfamiliar with JMJ appreciate and understand this specific recording a little better.
Jean Michel Jarre (JMJ) was born on the 24th August 1948 in Lyon, France.
His father (Maurice Jarre) was a very talented composer himself who helped write music themes for 'Lawrence of Arabia' and 'Dr Zhivago' to name but two.
JMJ is in the Guiness book of records several times but perhaps most notably for his live Paris show where he performed to close to 2 million people at the Arche de la Défense, he is clearly no ...

Audio Mixers: Ole Matthiessen; Lars Palsig. Though pianist Michel Petrucciani died in 1999, his legacy as a leader and accompanist (Joe Lovano, Charles Lloyd, Stephane Grappelli) continues to inspire. While he was not an innovator, his style was/remains a combination and summation of Bill Evans, Oscar Peterson, and McCoy Tyner. Like them, he could always find newness in the most overplayed standard. This double-disc set finds him in a 1994 live duet setting with Niels-Henning Orsted Pedersen (one of the finest bassists the European scene ever produced) at Denmark's Copenhagen Jazzhouse. Petrucciani plays brilliantly, of course, and Pedersen himself plays with not only amazing technique, but such presence that you'll never notice there's no drummer.
