Advantages: Two maestros for price of one Disadvantages: None
...Bala murali krishna, what can be said of him, every word in the music dictionary will fall short when i try to describe him in his own field. He has decades of practise that singing is breathing for him. Perhaps, quitely , there is a hum when he breaths in and out.
He is a pious man and with a blend of divinity and expertise in music, his renderings are as Divine as it can get. Clarity in expressing difficult words in Sanskrit, Hindi, Kannada, Telugu and Tamil makes his songs heart-throbbing. The vibrations really oscillate the listener into a different world.
PanditBhimsenJoshi, a singer with a difference, his rugged voice may seem to be a wrong combination for the compositions he sings, but once he gets going, the melody gets the better of everythign and everyone... his single line rendering in a patriotic song...

Advantages: Good selection Disadvantages: Not really representative as a "best of"
...Generally speaking I think "Best of/Hits" compilations of one band are a good idea, especially on CDs, as it allows both the poorer ones among us to renew our aged vinyl collection and 'newbies' to a band to get a good feel for them before leaping into the rest of their material.
However "Eternally Damned - The Very Best of The Damned" I find to be quite a misrepresentation of the bands' 25 year career and numerous albums (I have 11 but I'm sure there's more!). How all that can be summarised on one 20 track CD I can't fathom, and on this one it definitely hasn't been. True, there's a glut of 'Best of' albums for The Damned - "The Light at the End of the Tunnel" being currently the best one of the bunch.
"Eternally Damned" misses out great chunks, in my opinion, with certain eras of the bands' career being missed altogether...

Advantages: Good background listening Disadvantages: Odd mixture of music on the Uplifting disc
...I will say from the start that I am certainly no expert on classical music. I do often have Classic FM on the radio at home and recently bought their 2 CD set, Voices 2008. This is a compilation containing a selection of vocal pieces from the worlds of choral music and opera. There are pieces in this collection which you would immediately recognise on hearing them, even if their names are not familiar. In the set is a CD of relaxing pieces and a CD of uplifting pieces, so you have the choice of which best suits your mood. The notes which accompany the set are very brief, so here I am adding my own impressions along with information I have found from other sources.
