Advantages: superb, timeless songs Disadvantages: no more recordings / performances from Redding
...A great party record, this one - plenty of cracking dance tunes, and a decent quota of slow tunes for later on.
It's also some of the best quality soul music ever produced, and all of it produced during a very short period of time - during the mid-60s, until Redding died in a plane crash in 1967, aged just 26.
Redding himself wrote many of the songs, songs as good as:
# "These arms of mine" - his first single to chart, in 1963, it's a simple ballad, almost 50s crooner style. It's just a love song, about a guy pleading to his girl, but oh so persuasive.
# "Respect" - Aretha Franklin recorded the definitive version, but it's definitely worth hearing the Otis original.
# "Love man" - It might sound like a macho boast but I'm not so sure. When Otis stammers "cau cau cau cause I'm a love man" it sounds more like a man who...

Advantages: All the great songs which they did!!! Disadvantages: Most songs have already been released (obviously) so they'll have been heard.
...The red hot chiili peppers have been around years and have realeased some absolutly great songs. This album brings together most of them.
16 tracks. Over an hour of outstanding music and great lyrics.
Taken from By the Way - Californication - One Hot Minute - Blood Sugar Sex Magik
1) Under the Bridge - this song i'd say is the very very best RHCP have done. Originally written when a band member died in 1988 (or so i beleive) this ong has some great gutairing and superb lyrics, if you haven't heard this song then you haven't lived it's absolutly great!!
2) Give it Away - I personally don't like this song, it's not rubbish or anything but it just doesn't hit the right tone for me.
3) Californication- Now this song is absolutly brilliant!! It is taken from their album of the same name and lasts just over 5 minutes, this song...

Advantages: Funky, fun and interesting for chili's fans Disadvantages: Shows its age, in places bland
...THe Red hot chili peppers are a modern phenomenon, racking up millions of sales worldwide with thier latest albums, By the Way and Californication.
But they have been around since this, thier first album realeased in 1984, and boy have they come a long way.
Before I start, I must say that I love this album. But I don't reccomend it. It shows its age, this is an album that doesn't deserve to be bought by the average listener. Songs are uninspired and dull. The guitarist and drummer are not the ones whom are actually members of the chilli's, and the recording suffers for it. The lyrics are banal and in places nosensical.
So why do I love it? Its fun.
These days many artists place integrity very highly. This album is written and recorded by a bunch of young maniacs best known for a gig where they played wearing nothing...
