Song by song review:
1. "The Fury" – 4:26
This song starts with a 20 second delay before suddenly the guitars hit in with a huge riff. The drums are flat out blast beats. This is an excellent start to the album and really gets you nodding along. It gets quite repetitive towards the end but you have to admire the brilliance of the drums here. 9/10
2. "Three-Dimensional Defect" – 3:57
This song starts with some more excellent drumming skills on show, before going into the verse with some nice riffs. Some nice little sweep picked solos in between parts of the song. Not as good as the previous song but still very good. 8/10
3. "Lying and Weak" – 3:25
This song is similar to the fury in that it is an all out thrash assault, with some really good riffs and more blast beats. These first few songs are starting the album out in brutal style. Some more good solo parts here on guitars. 9/10
4. "Sensual Sickness" – 4:05
The whole speed is taken down a few notches here for this next song, which still has the drummer doing double pedals. A song for die hard death metal fans, of which I am not, but still a fairly good song with bits that really pick up nicely, but the overall verse riff is a bit dull. 7/10
5. "The Calling" (instrumental) – 1:17
This is just a short interlude of the guitars making strange noises, with a bit of drumming in the background. It is quite an intriguing interlude and fits in nicely to the next song. 5/10
6. "The Negation" – 5:04
The album’s title track is a bit disappointing. I was expecting this to be the best song here but it is a bit slow and dull for my liking. There are again some nice little hints of solos but overall not an interesting song. 6/10
7. "Long-Desired Dementia" – 3:21
My favourite song on the album due to its introduction. A brutal opening riff coupled with blast beat drums sounds brilliant. Another big thrash song to go with the opening few. 9/10
8. "The Empty Throne" – 4:41
Another die hard death metal song. It’s interesting to see this album have both extreme ends of the genre inside, with one end the fast thrash and at the other end the slowed down heavy part. This sits somewhere in between with it not being slow but not being fast either. Some good riffs and more excellent drumming. 7/10
9. "Lunatic of God's Creation" (Deicide cover) – 2:34
This song being a cover of a band I don’t like, I was expecting this to be a poor song. But decapitated have really done this song some justice. Bit of a disappointing close to the album seeing as there is such a mixture of songs on offer, but this is another thrash song with break downs. Look to Decapitated’s own songs for better song writing, they did not need to do a cover. 7/10
Overall rating:
This album has been produced on a much smaller budget it would seem compared to their most recent album, as the production quality is no match for their new album. Beyond that, the songs available here are not as well rounded and tend to either be all out thrash or typical death metal, with no middle ground. As well as this, the all out thrash songs are really good, but the death metal ones are not.
I’d give this album an 8/10 for its great songs that it does have, even though with better production quality and one or two better songs, this could easily be a 9 or 10.
Also be aware that the old singer, Sauron, is a typical death metal growler with a really deep sounding voice that may spoil it for certain listeners.
This album is for fans of:
People who like any sort of death metal will love this, as well as fans of such bands as Necrophagist, Cannibal Corpse and Slayer, will all have something to enjoy.
Best songs: The fury Long desired dementia Lying and weak
Advantages: Technical, Atmospheric, full of catchy riffs, brilliantly executed Disadvantages: None
Released in 2004, 'The Negation' is an excellent slab of technical, groove-laden death metal with a cold and mechanical-sounding edge to it. This was the last album to feature Sauron on vocals, and is regarded by many as the band's proudest moment. The songs are a mix of cold, and at times almost doomy guitar lines and incredibly tight high-speed riffing backed up by fast, clinical, blastbeat-heavy percussion courtesy of the now sadly departed drummer ... ...in a slow and calculated manner over the chaotic mailstrom of riffs and drums in a way that suits the music perfectly. The songs are full of tight, chugging riffs that are worked with almost surgical precision into the various deep, slow grooves that each track hammers home repeatedly, and this is contrasted with insanley melodic guitar solos at various intervals. The whole thing is reminiscient of a tighter, faster version of early Deicide in places, ...

Advantages: Hard, quick, fast and some great guitar solos Disadvantages: A few not so good tracks
The Negation is Decapitated's 3rd album and was released in 2004 by Wicked World Records. It's one of their best albums in my eyes although it still has some weak points.
The band's line-up was
Wacław "Vogg" Kiełtyka - Guitar
Marcin "Martin" Rygiel - Bass
Witold "Vitek" Kieltyka - Drums (RIP)
Wojciech "Sauron" Wąsowicz - Vocals
1 - The Fury - Literally what you'd expect from a song called this, deep growling vocals, incredibly ... ...of the symbols so hard, you'd think they'd fall off.
2 - Three Dimensional Effect - Machine gun metal guitar playing with a crazy solo that sounds like Joe Satriani in the middle of a war! Vocals are Napalm Deathesque
3 - Lying and Weak - Back to a more rational guitar sound, the same vocals as the previous track, the track seems to speed up throughout, it's not that memorable though.
4 - Sensual Sickness - Fast and brutal, the guitar is insanely ...

Advantages: Immensely powerful, some great riffs and grooves Disadvantages: Not a lot of variation between songs
complexity of later Origin releases is less prevalent here, although the standard of musicianship is still hugely impressive. Simply, the album offers a whirlwind of non-stop pummelling from start to finish, suggestive of an inhabited planet under constant and relentless bombardment from an endless shower of meteorites.
The riffing is simplistic and repetitive, but extremely fast and in perfect unison with the equally clinical drumming. The term 'clinical' is rather appropriate for the album as whole in fact, given that it sounds cold, alien and mechanical, in a way that is similar to, say, Decapitated album 'The Negation'. It manages to combine this clinical approach with the fat, chuggy grooves evident in Deicide's debut, whilst it's dense and relentless nature will appeal to fans of Suffocation.
Whilst the tracks are very similar, there ...
