Take That, who hasn't heard of them, whether back in the 90's or now with their successful relaunch with their new song "patience". Take That were 5 young lads from manchester bought together by Nigel Martin Smith, the boys that would go on to break a million hearts were- Gary Barlow, Robbie Williams, Mark Owen, Jason Orange and Howard Donald. None of the lads any any professional stage or performance school training yet they set off for 2 years doing gigs covering popular dance numbers as well as some of Gary Barlow's own compositions. They signed a recording contract in 1992 and had 3 flops before finally getting a hit with "It only takes a minute" amazing success followed and the group went on to make history with an endless succession of number 1 hits. In 1995 popular band member Robbie Williams quit the group and the remaining 4 attempted to carry on without him, sadly in 1996 after 1 final hit with "Never forget" the band announced they were to split. The break up caused international upset with special help lines set up to help devestated fans. Well now they're back and as good as ever, their popularity remains and their new tour sold out within minutes!

Take That The Ultimate collection is naturally a compilation of the groups greatest hits from their original work. It's a must for all former Take That fans and contains all their best songs from a time when pop was pure and we were proud to be cheesy. Of course you dont need to be a 90's era fan to buy the album and new generation fans will probably be interested to check out the groups old sound.

I was never really a huge fan back in the 90's, Boyzone came out a few years after them and I was devoted to them. That was back in the day where you picked a band, learned everything there was to know and followed their every movement, fortunately now there is a more relaxed feel to enjoying a band and their music, that and the fact that i'm a grown up now! I actually got this cd this year(2007) after seeing the group on the Royal Variety performance, I had heard they were making a come back and liked their new song, I thought what better way to refresh my self on the groups music than to buy their greatest hits, its also allowed me to revert back to my inner teenager and secretly enjoy cheesy pop music that I couldnt dare talk about out loud nowadays.

The songs on the album are-
Never forget
Back for good
How deep is your love
Pray
Relight my fire
Babe
Sure
It only takes a minute
A million loves songs
Could it be magic
Why cant I wake up with you
Love aint here anymore
I found heaven
Promises
Once you've tasted love
Pray(live in berlin)
Relight my fire(element remix)
Today ive lost you(previously unreleased)

"Today ive lost you" was originally intended to be released as a follow up to "Back for good" it never came to be and this album version was eventually recorded in 2005.

My personal favourites are "Everything changes" and "it only takes a minute" out of the upbeat numbers, they are pop at its best full of great uplifting lyrics, beats to dance to and a feeling of sitting outside on a sunny day enjoying your youth. "A million love songs" is my favourite ballad, the lyrics are beautiful and you can really feel the desperation of a man trying to convince his girl that he really does care for her. Gary Barlows writing talent was amazing, for such a young guy to create such powerful songs and melodies shows real talent. Despite its success and popularity never liked and still dont like "relight my fire" I never understood why they teemed up with Lulu and didn't feel like this was the group at it's best, plus it was played everywhere and soon started to get annoying. I also think "Sure" and "why cant I wake up with you" are some of their weaker numbers, the singing doesnt pull together as well as on other tracks and the lyrics arent as good.

A few of the bands hits were cover versions including "it only takes a minute" originally recorded by Tavares and "could it be magic" originally by Barry Manilow. The success of the hits was so big that many people thought the songs were originally Take That numbers, which I must say was much to the annoyance of my mum( a Barry Maniloe fan) who got awfully offended one day when she was asked had Barry copied a Take That song! (I wont tell you her reply)

The cd case and cover are in a burnished silver colour and features an image of the five members etched in black and white(well black and silver, but you know what I mean) The cd comes in an outer card sleeve which can be a bit of a pain to get into, its quite fiddly and easy to tear. The inner book features a photo montage, track details, thanks and a section deailing the bands history. There are a total of 19 tracks with an approx run time of 77.07 mins.

The cd is widely available both in store and online. Shop.com sells it from £6.95, Play.com from £8.95, im sure places like Amazon and Ebay will also sell it.

This is a great summer cd, certainly for the girly girl. Ok so hardcore metal fans wont like it and i'm pretty sure male fans are in the minority but its a great look back to a (thankfully) forgotten time where at least we can say the music was good even if the rest of the era was terrible.

Hmmm, a few errors in here. Their manager was Nigel Martin Smith, not Martin Smith. They weren't from the North-West,unless Manchester has moved up a bit to where I live in the North-West! Perhaps because I used to be a Take That fan I'm being a bit pedantic.....but when I read it, it just doesn't seem to be how I remember things happening....
