On the whole, Never Mind the Bollocks is a mediocre album. 4 great songs, 2 ok ones and 4 crap ones. This has got to be one of the most blatant instances of 'filler' tracks on a record, and I would assume these were ones written, or completed after the departure of the talented Matlock. ... (bass); Paul Cook (drums). Put this alongside BLONDE ON BLONDE and REVOLVER as an album that changed the face of rock forever. Along with the Clash and the Damned, the Sex Pistols were one of the first bands to channel the anger of dole-queue '70s Britain through a fierce musical amalgam of pub rock, the Stooges and the New York Dolls. Despite their influences, Johnny Rotten and company created something utterly unlike what had come before. Their anarchist/nihilist attitude, reflected in tunes like Anarchy in the U.K. and No Feelings spoke to a new generation of kids, more profoundly disaffected than any other in the 20th century.Rotten's snarling, distinctly British delivery of his agitational lyrics made Dylan sound like Mario Lanza, and the pile-driver guitars of Glen Matlock and Steve Jones move the songs along like a well-oiled but ornery machine. For all their iconoclasm, though, the Pistols were far more indebted to traditional pop song format (and dynamics) than most of the punk bands that followed in their wake. Consequently, for all their anger and urgency, such songs as Submission and Pretty Vacant enter the ear easily, only beginning to cause real internal damage once they get into your gut. and written about than listened to. Only a handful of rock & roll bands can genuinely claim to have changed the world, and only one of those can claim to have done it with such a tiny discography (though any number of retrospective albums have been issued since the band met their messy end, this was the only one released while they were still a going concern). It is impossible that any serious fan of modern music is not familiar with at least the singles collected here ("Pretty Vacant", "Anarchy In The UK", "God Save The Queen"). Jamie Reid's lurid yellow-and-pink sleeve artwork is also an enduringly influential cultural artefact. Mostly, though, what should never be forgotten about Never Mind. . . is that when all the mischief and mayhem it inspired or caused has been stripped away, it is a truly great rock & roll album: guitars as angry and adrenalised as any ever recorded, killer tunes, and Johnny Rotten's inimitable voice--the definitive articulation of disgust. Altogether perfect. Every era, and every home, should have one. --Andrew Mueller

Advantages: When the songs are good, they are great Disadvantages: When they are crap, they are woeful
...On the whole, Never Mind the Bollocks is a mediocre album. 4 great songs, 2 ok ones and 4 crap ones. This has got to be one of the most blatant instances of 'filler' tracks on a record, and I would assume these were ones written, or completed after the departure of the talented Matlock. The fact is, that by the end of the record, Lydon's vocals, which when they are good they are awesome, have become tired in your ears, and Jones guitar, so fresh ... ...While I would recommend the album to anyone with an interest in the Punk Scene, this would be purely on the strength of the singles, and had I been around in 1977 and already owned the singles, I would have felt very short changed upon buying this hideously overrated record. Not long after it's release, the band folded, this being their only studio album. They went on to fairly splintered fates, Sid dying not too long after, with Lydon forming PiL, ...

...abundance. Whilst it was never going to be everyones cup of tea and it railed against the establishment. It gets four stars from me, only losing a star because the production could have been a lot better and there are one or two weak songs on the album.
AND FINALLY
As I mentioned earlier I obtained my copy from HMV in the sale for £4.99 and that's the cheapest I've been able to locate it. Amazon are currently selling it for £6.99, although there ...

Advantages: A proper punk record Disadvantages: Punk doesn't sound like this anyomre
...British punk outfit. There was never supposed to be the tidal wave of imitators that followed – instead the idea was to change the way people thought about music. The Buzzcocks and The Undertones picked up the pop element of punk and ran with it successfully. The Jam and The Police picked up the abrasiveness of punk and added it to more mainstream orientated rock dynamics. The Sex Pistols only released one album but they influenced as many, if not ... ...other members of her family never even noticed the “shock art” sleeve (picture of the Queen with a safety pin through her nose) which accompanied the “God Save The Queen” single. However, everyone from mum’s and dad’s; events promoters; television presenters; old, established rock bands through to policemen/women, WAS aware of the Sex Pistols. The face of music changed quickly during 1977/78 and the seeds that were quietly sown during 1976 meant ...

Advantages: An essential purchase, sounds great and innovative, digitally remastered Disadvantages: Some of the songs sound kinda similar, London Calling's better
Practically every modern British rock band owes a debt of gratitude to the Sex Pistols. Given the heritage of this band, it's kinda surprising, after all, the Pistols were a manufactured band, like Hear'Say or god knows who else, and they also suffered from one major drawback....they couldn't play.
Somehow, this band, the most influential band since the Beatles, managed to overcome that. The Pistols were accused of not being able to play. Listen ... ...I can't claim that to be hard fact), and you'll hear what was basically the biggest revolution in music since rock n' roll finally blasted away the appalingness of drivel like 'How much is that doggy' and all the other songs your grandparents would find wholesome.
Picture the scene...ok, for me this is purely hypothetical because I was born in the same year Sid Vicious died, but hey, I'm making an effort. Anyway, picture the scene. In 1976, the ...

...remains to this day. There never would have been U2, Nirvana, Oasis, Green Day, Rancid etc., and even now there are bands like McFly and Busted who are peddling a pathetically corrupted version of the music to the present-day single-buying public, who tend to be under 14, and interested in what sweets they're going to buy after school and what colour is in fashion and is Burberry still cool.
For this reason, NMTB is an essential album for those ... ...really wanted to say, but never would have been able to in those far-off distant days when you had to be PROFICIENT on your instrument to get anywhere.
It is also a blindingly good album if you want to hear some power pop - and is one of the best albums i know for doing housework to, as your body wants to go at 4 times its' normal speed with this in the background (yes, even Punks do housework!).
Please remember. though, that i am calling this ...
