Wow, the godfathers of grunge. Nirvana were popular because of their grunge style, but also because they could actually put together quality songs about it. Smells Like Teen Spirit is one of the most instantly recogniseable songs around, its drums, vocals and guitars cannot be faulted. Damn, even the video was a revolution. A lot of rock fans would buy the album purely for this, but luckily Nevermind offers a lot more besides. In bloom continues where teen Spirit leaves off; it is another memorable rock song with grunge attitude. The guitar and drums are equally excellent, and you almost wonder why David Grohl isn't drumming still, though is suppose we are better off with the foo fighters. Anyway, In Bloom is a great song, and the lyrics take the p**s out of some of the more diehard grungies, which made me laugh. Come as you are is a slower, perhaps more melodic song, that deserves as much recognition as the first two. nirvana continue to prove that they are the best at what they did. 3 tracks, and still no faults. Come as you are would satisfy fans of heavier and softer music, as it contains both elements, the chorus has good guitar and vocals. track 4 - Breed. Oh dear. This isn't quite as good musically. If you can ignore the near-drowning voice of Cobain, and listen to the guitar, you will hear a great song. The vocals are repetitive, simply put, weather they are supposed to be or not, i dont like them. next comes Lithium, then Polly. these are both mainly quieter than the other songs. Both lyrically excellent, and feature Kurt singing rather than shouting. Thats 5 excellent songs out of the first six, where modern albums might struggle to feature one. The next three tracks are standard nirvana fare, but rank above what many rock bands release as singles. Lounge act perticularly sounds perfectly balanced, like all the band members knew what to do to get the best from the others. The last three tracks round off what is the closest to a perfect album i have heard. If you have even a casual interest in grunge, rock, metal or angry music in general, this is a must for your collection. It was popular at time of release and has lost absolutely noting with time. Cobain truly was one of the greatest losses to the mussical world. without Nirvana, i daresay none of the teen angst that profits limp bizkit etc would exist. BUY THIS ALBUM!
