Smells Like Teen Spirit- Undoubtably Nirvana's best known song mainly as it toppedthe charts in numerous countries all over the world. Every part of this song is excellent from the skillfull guitar intro which sticks in your head, to the amazing lyrics song sung in Kurt Cobain's classic rugged voice. A classic and a new sound to musicone of my favourite songs of all-time. Favourite lyrics 'I found it hard it was hard to find/Oh well whatever/Nevermind'
In Bloom- After Smells Like Teen Spirit sets an amazing trend for this album you would think it would be hard to chose a second song to back up the classic that is Smells Like Teen Spirit. In Bloom covers this excellently showing that Kurt can actually sing. In Bloom covers excellent lyrics telling of people who like to sing along to Nirvana But don't actually understand what Kurt is saying in his songs. Favourite Lyrics- 'We Can ask for more/ Nature is a w****/ bruise the summer fruit/tender and in Bloom' Come
As You Are- Nirvana's most popular song in the United States begins with a very catchy intro which leads to a really great song. By this point in the album I had decided these 3 songs were worth the £14.99. Excellent vocals by the emotional Cobain. The lyrics are very eerie and peculiar as we look back on them as Kurt sings 'And I swear that I don't have a gun. No I dont have a gun' kinda ironic considering he shot himself 3 years later. Breed- At the start of this song you can tell by the fast guitars and the heavy drums that this song is going to be slightly more of a rock-grunge song than the others. A much more aggressive song compared to earliers, but great none-the-less. A pure grunge element in this song as it much more rugged and ruff vocally and very heavy and fast musically. This song pulls away from the trend set by the earlier tracks, but is still amazing.
Lithium- A very well-known Nirvana song, and created one of the most well-known lyrics ever. The lyric I am of course talking about 'Sunday morning is every day for all I care and I'm not scared, Light my candles in a blaze cos I've found god..' A very mellow and more meaningful song than the earlier. It gives a strange insight into Kurt's personality in a deep way. The first of the songs with a very mellow verses that hits into a loud chorus. Brilliant song. Favourite Lyrics 'I like it-I'm not gonna crack I miss you-I'm not gonna crack I love you- I'm not gonna crack I'll Kill-I'm not gonna crack'
Polly- A strange, more relaxed and peculair song. Played acoustic. I have read how upset Kurt Cobain was when he heard a group of girls were raped by men, who sung the lyrics to this song. A different song, but still very good.
Territorial P***ings- A strange kind of scary voice sings 'come on people now, smile on your brother every-body get together try and love one another right now' at the beggining of this song, before the guitars and drums hit in and Cobains loud screaming voice is heard on one of the best 'heavier' songs Nirvana have done. Favourite lyric 'Just because your paranoid, don't mean there not after you'
Drain you- A kind of love song, in Nirvana terms. Its very good and uses the classic Nirvana style but with a nice kind of twist to it. Very well written song. Favourite lyric 'One baby to another said I'm lucky to have met you I don't care what you think unless it is about me'
Lounge Act- A more upbeat I wouldnt say happy, but definetly more cheerful than the other songs.A good song, but not as good as the rest of the album, but worthy of a place on this great album in my opinion.
Stay Away- Sticks to the trend set by 90% of this album. This is a very good song as even though musically it sticks to the trend of the albums I feel the locals are very different,,but definetly different in a very good way.
On a Plain- On a plain is one of my favourite tracks on the album as it actually has a very cheerful tune and vocals to it. It starts with what songs like a sound test by the band and then instantly hits into the tune with continues through the song.
Something In The Way- A very depressing and somewhat upsetting song. Shows a side of Kurt which is hidden on this album, a great end to a classic album which is undoutably one of the classics
There is another hidden track which is very scary. It is loud and heavy with a lot of screaming and mentions a lot about death.etc.
My overall opinion
A must buy album for all nirvana and rock fans. If you haven't got this album. Get it now!

Advantages: Powerful music only matched after its release, but a depth unrivalled to this day Disadvantages: An ironic depth to the album, which many won't or simply can't understand
