I'm a 20 year old from Lincolnshire, currently studying law at UEA in Norwich. I love rock music and can not stand manufactured pop. I work for my university TV station, including interviewing bands such as Therapy? and Amen.

Why should I bother to review this album? Everyone, their pet dog, and it's pet gerbil have reviewed it before, surely I have nothing new to add? Well, hey it's a classic album and whether I add anything new or not I just want to add my opinion.
Smells Like Teen Spirit - You've heard it, you love it, what more can I say. Well quite a lot. This song to me is not one of the stand-out tracks on the album. Don't get me wrong it is an awesome track with a great guitar solo but simply cannot compare to the other tracks on the album. It is a trademark Nirvana song with the quiet chorus and the monstrous chorus riff, showcasing their sense of dynamics.
In Bloom - A track which is really made by Dave Grohl's stunning drumming. This has an amazing drumbeat and guitar intro, leading into one of the few chorus's which actually have lyrics with genuine understandable meaning - "He's the one who likes all our pretty songs and he likes to sing along and he likes to shoot his gun, but he don't know what it means to me". For me this summed up the way many of Kurts lyrics were written - more personal and straight from the heart than a thousand emo bands.
Come As You Are - Stunning intro again leading into a catchy song with some slightly strange lyrics, but the quality of the song shines through. Slightly slower than other songs on the album, it provides a good change of tempo.
Breed - Awesome bass riff which introduces a song which I would rate as one of the best Nirvana wrote. A true classic, catchy as hell and with yet another awesome guitar solo.
Lithium - Nevermind is worth buying for this song alone. The lyrics are thought-provoking and amusing in turn, while the riff is a melodic masterpiece. The chorus is another explosive one, again showcasing Nirvana's sense of dynamics. Excellent, probably the best song on the album
Polly - An acoustic song, another slow burner, and all the better for it. Unplugged songs have a tendency to bring out the best songcraft in bands and this delicate song is another example of that.
Territorial Pissings - Nirvana play punk. A simple three chord riff and unintelligible lyrics about aliens. Who else but Nirvana could mix these ingredients into such a good song. This song is easily the most aggressive on the album, and harks back to Bleach in style.
Drain You - I always feel that this is the partner song to Territorial Pissings. The two seem to go together so well, the unfettered aggression of TP contrasting the more laid back style and country-esque vocals of this song. This song shows how versatile Kurt's voice really was.
Lounge Act - Strange lyrics again, but interesting nonetheless. Probably the only track on the album I wouldn't really miss.
Stay Away - The brilliant stop/start lyrics of the chorus are for me what make this song, giving it a feel which is very distinctly Nirvana. Catchy guitar riff again.
On A Plain - Another punky song, but not as aggressive as TP. Lacks the big chorus of other songs, but makes up for it with a brilliant verse.
Something in the Way - The last word in slow and emotional songs. The lyrics are slightly strange in places (notice a recurring pattern here?) but yet strangely enough you feel you can relate to them. Beautiful song which caps the album.
Nameless Jam - The hidden song. This song was clearly when they just messed up a recording of another song, worth novelty value, but not much more.
If you like this: Try Alice in Chains, I would recommend starting with the Greatest Hits or Dirt. Everyone seems to forget that Nirvana weren't the only grunge band, Soundgarden and Alice in Chains are two awesome bands who seem to get overlooked. Give them a try, you never know, you might like them.

Soundgarden rule as well. I think the only reason Nirvana outshine other grunge bands is because of their mainstream appeal compared to the other bands. Excellent op though. Cheers, Craig.

I think you should add your opinion wherever you like, whoever's spoken before you. I enjoyed what you had to say anyway.

Good op. Says it all... and we need to be reminded - even of the classics - now and then. Paul
